DevOps Job Roles Have Changed So Fast 😅

I remember when learning Linux, Git, Jenkins and Docker felt like a pretty solid

foundation to start looking for DevOps roles.

Now… look at the image. 😂

Kubernetes.
CI/CD.
Terraform.
AWS/Azure/GCP.
GitOps.
Security.
Observability.

And somehow the entry-level role wants 3+ years of experience. 😂

But here is something I have come to believe.

Getting your foot in the door requires some luck too.

Not blind luck though.

You need to be prepared when that luck finally finds you.

"It's better to prepare for an opportunity that never comes than have an
opportunity come and realize you weren't prepared for it."

Because when the interview finally comes, nobody cares about the 50 job applications that rejected you.

You just need to be ready for that one YES.

So if you're trying to break into DevOps, don't feel like you have to learn

everything in that meme at once.

Start somewhere.

Get good training. There are tons of resources on Udemy and YouTube. Find

someone you understand and, more importantly, build while you learn.

Don't just watch Kubernetes videos.

Build a cluster.

Don't just learn what CI/CD means.

Build a pipeline.

Don't just read about Terraform.

Provision something with it.

If certification is part of your journey, the Linux Foundation certifications are

also worth exploring.

You can even work towards becoming a KubeAstronaut. Funny enough, I've

come across job postings mentioning certifications like CKAD, CKA and CKS.

But certification alone isn't the destination either.

Keep building something tangible that you can talk about.

That's what I try to do myself.

I'm still learning.

I'm still building.

Keep learning. Keep building.

You don't need to know everything.

You just need to be better prepared when your opportunity finally shows up.
