SEBI Sends Show Cause Notice to 6 Capital Group FPIs

SEBI has issued a show cause notice to six Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) managed by US-based Capital Group.
This is the first time Capital Group has been named in a SEBI front-running case.
The regulator alleges that there were serious lapses in keeping trade information confidential. This helped create a big front-running network involving famous market operator Ketan Parekh and Singapore-based trader Rohit Salgaocar.
What happened:
• Two traders from Capital Group allegedly shared trade details with Rohit Salgaocar.
• Salgaocar then passed sensitive information to Ketan Parekh.
• This allowed them to build positions in stocks before Capital Group’s big trades, making unfair profits.
Probe Period: January 2021 to June 2023
Evidence: Bloomberg chats and WhatsApp records
Capital Group is one of the world’s largest asset managers with over $3.3 Trillion in global assets.
SEBI has also started legal proceedings against several funds managed by them.
