Congratulations to @AmitMeghanani on passing his #PhD#viva for his thesis "Improving Content Representations in Self-supervised Speech Models"! Huge thanks to his supervisor @thomashain and his viva examiners Prof Mark Gales (@Cambridge_Eng) and Dr Anton Ragni (Sheffield)!
Me at the exact same location barely two years ago. It could have been me or you or our families. If we keep quiet, we are just proving yet again that we are nothing but sitting ducks!
Before giving gyan, just try to put yourself or your family there before offering gyan!
I am looking for excellent PhD candidates working on speech, langauge and machine learning. The first announcemnt is out - more to come. https://t.co/F03hJ0w7fR
We always knew that Chomsky was wrong about language models, it’s nice to have a paper showing you just how wrong he was! #ACL2024 best papsr. https://t.co/bpzRX10l8F
What's holding back research isn't a lack of verbose, low-signal, high-noise papers. Using LLMs to automatically generate 100x more of those will not accelerate science, it will slow it down.
Do you know how the face and voice are related? FAME 2024 Challenge (https://t.co/E3FVABsg8x) aims to explore face-voice association under a multilingual environment, which is a part of ACM Multimedia 2024 Grand Challenges. We look forward to your participation! @ACMMM24
Presented my paper titled 'SCORE: Self-Supervised Correspondence Fine-Tuning for Improved Content Representations' (https://t.co/zDGmhLEqgz) at @ieeeICASSP, Seoul. Had a great time discussing my research and connecting with fellow scholars! #icassp@sltcdt@shefcompsci
Pace of progress in AI is lightning!
@OpenAI released MRL style text embeddings, mirroring our NeurIPS '22 paper (w/ awesome folks from UW and Harvard).
However, as an advocate of open science, I am a bit disappointed with rebranding to "shortening embs" without ref to MRL 1/n
Speech technology is not available for many languages due to a lack of data - and foundation models have role to play here. If you are interested in this topic, consider contributing to this #interspeech2024 special session https://t.co/N0TI0kovOn ! We look forward to your paper!
Super New Year news in the form of another paper for @AmitMeghanani! Accepted to #EACL2024 (18th Conference of the European Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics) - congratulations!!
More great pre-Christmas news in the form of another paper accepted to #ICASSP2024 (IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing) - congratulations to @AmitMeghanani!!
@badr_nlp I haven't seen any multilingual HuBERT but there is this work for multilingual WavLM https://t.co/SpdmApRIJq ( which is close to HuBERT model). This pre-print was available after the icassp deadline :)
Don't listen to this person.
Ask around to your favorite companies if they take non-PhD for your preferred position. I asked most of them and they all said no, except for the (temporary) Google residency.
That's why I did a PhD and I'm glad I did.
