Great to host Dr. Amit Jhala (@AmitUNL) from the @UNLincoln at @SDState. His talk on precision sprayers and robotic targeted weed management in corn and soybean systems was engaging and sparked great discussion. Thank you, Dr. Jhala!

Until recently, the plant, Amaranthus palmeri, did not have a major presence in western Nebraska. But early this decade, #UNLAgroHort 's Nevin Lawrence — a scientist working at #Nebraska U's @UNLExtPanhandle in Scottsbluff — began pointing to the possible threat. His pioneering scientific findings and partnership with Western Sugar Cooperative helped head off a major outbreak. #UNL

Weed management rice relies on timely control during early growth stages. Effective practices include pre‑emergence herbicides followed by post-emergence herbicides. Integrated approaches improve grain yield and lower biomass of grasses, sedges, and broad‑leaf weeds. @unlagrohort@JhalaRachana@UNLExtension@MarthaMamo3
Common lambsquarters (Chenopodium album) is a fast‑growing summer annual broadleaf weed widely found in vegetable crop fields in Gujarat, India. It competes aggressively for nutrients, moisture, and light, thrives in nitrogen‑rich soils, and produces large, long‑lasting seed banks, making it persistent and difficult to control in vegetable crops. @unlagrohort@JhalaRachana@UNLincoln@MarthaMamo3
Research shows that tobacco yield losses due to weeds can be very high—often 30%–60% or more—when fields are left uncontrolled. Gujarat (a major tobacco producing state in India) faces similar risk because of labor shortages and heavy weed competition.
Experiments at the Tobacco Research Station, Anand Agricultural University tested weed‑management treatments and showed that unweeded plots had significantly lower yields compared to manually weeded or herbicide‑treated
plots. @JhalaRachana@MarthaMamo3@unlagrohort@UNLExtension@UNLincoln@UNL_IANR
