As far as food habits are concerned one can still excel and win medals in sports being vegaterian such as
Shooting
Archery
Bowling
Bridge
Table Tennis
many others
Hope you are aware that most Kabbadi players and Wrestler/Boxer are from the state of Haryana and majortiy are strict Vegaterian

Another argument is Pakistan and Bangladesh which are hard core non veg nations draw ducks in such games mostly, therefore its not just the eating habits but much more details.

India sports shining is demonstrated at the cost of Taxpayers INR 4479 Crore ( $ 540 Million) for year 2026-27 allotted for sports budget, an increase of approx. 18% over last year.
