Love this talk on body language from Geno Auriemma. Makes me think of something I heard not too long ago…

When you play cards, do you show everyone your hand? My guess is no, you NEVER do that.

Well, when athletes have poor body language, it is the equivalent of them “showing their hand” to their competition.

They’re letting everyone know that they’re starting to spiral and that they’re not in control.

That becomes a huge competitive disadvantage. Personally, I used to LOVE seeing pitchers with poor body language when I played, as I knew that he would most likely make a mistake and it really just gave me more confidence in the moment.

Players out there, the moral of this story to act and carry yourself differently than you feel. Don’t “show your hand” to your competition, your coaches, or your team.

Not only will YOU feel more confident by doing this, but you also won’t let the sharks (your competitors) sense blood in the water.
