@GermanyDiplo Honoring their memory requires real accountability not political convenience. Alnour Gubba, who directly commanded the attack on the city was welcomed into SAF rather than held to account. There is no genuine justice without prosecuting all perpetrators..
A full year has passed since Sudanese #journalist Moammar Ibrahim was detained by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), yet confirmed #information about his #health and the circumstances of his detention remains unavailable.

One year after the fall of El Fasher, I write about the city where I was born and raised, the life we lost, and friends whose fate remains unknown .

Over 12 million Sudanese children have lost the opportunity to access education; despite all our troubles, children were able to go to school in Sudan and return home safely, even in IDP camps. Sudan had millions of refugee families who were settling safely among us. All that is gone because of the UAE's brutal and senseless instigation of violence, dehumanizing Sudanese because we are Africans, while the international community is numbly watching without any sense of responsibility or basic commitment to international law.

Cairo’s playbook in Sudan is plain to see: exploit our gold, violate our sovereignty and bomb defenseless artisanal miners along the border. Striking vulnerable workers to control Sudanese resources is an absolute outrage..

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, co-chaired, with the United States, a high-level meeting of the Quad and Quintet on #Sudan, marking the first time the two coordination formats convened together.
In his opening remarks, the Chairperson @ymahmoudali stressed that the meeting must translate into convergence & action. He underscored the gravity of the war, its growing regional spillovers & the burden on neighbouring countries hosting millions of refugees.
He called for an immediate humanitarian truce & cessation of hostilities as a pathway to a durable ceasefire, reiterating that there is no military solution to the conflict. He stressed the need for an inclusive, Sudanese-owned & Sudanese-led political process leading to the restoration of constitutional order, while preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty & territorial integrity and rejecting fragmentation.
The Chairperson also called for greater inclusivity in Sudanese dialogue, & urged an end to external military support fuelling the conflict. He emphasised that humanitarian, security & political tracks must advance in parallel and reinforce one another.
Participants identified practical areas for follow-up calling for closer alignment of the political & security tracks, measures to reduce violence & protect civilians, & preparations for monitoring & verification of any agreement.
They reaffirmed focus on ending the conflict, alleviating humanitarian suffering & supporting an inclusive Sudanese political process. They highlighted ongoing work on a humanitarian declaration & the need to address external military interference.
The meeting called for stronger operational coordination between the Quad & Quintet, a shared roadmap linking humanitarian action, cessation of hostilities & civilian dialogue, & more regular coordination between technical teams.
The Quintet stressed deeper engagement with Sudanese civilian constituencies & efforts to bring diverse civilian groups together around an inclusive political process.
In his closing remarks, the AU Commission Chairperson called for the two platforms to move from convergence to systematic & operational coordination, helping overcome fragmentation.
He identified three core priorities: humanitarian truce; cessation of hostilities; and an all-inclusive, Sudanese-owned dialogue.
He commended the United States for its engagement with Sudanese stakeholders & recognised the tireless efforts of Senior Adviser Massad Boulos, while expressing appreciation for IGAD, UN, EU & other partners supporting efforts to bring peace to Sudan.

The United States declares a policy of regime change in Sudan. There is no other way to read this statement. As someone who has worked on and witnessed the lowest of the low in US-Sudan relations, I have never seen as policy of regime change declared.
Most shockingly, it is because of repeated acts of diplomatic malpractice. The United States has painted itself into a corner. First with its chemical weapons sanctions, then with its arms embargo, then with its visa ban. Now, in order to justify its visa ban, it has doubled down on its regime of maximum pressure.
The problem with this approach is that it leaves no way out. Either Burhan bends his knee and signs whatever is put in front of him unconditionally or the situation remains as is. There is no face saving exit for either side based on this statement. That makes for bad diplomacy and suggests that achieving a peace deal was never the Trump Administration's intent.
My fear is that Sudan will now escalate things another level and give the US the justification is so desperately needs for this approach. That would be a mistake. Hoping that cooler heads can prevail...but I am not immediately optimistic. https://t.co/pyB2Jhe6iO
