درگذشت دکتر پیروز مجتهدزاده، استاد برجسته جغرافیای سیاسی و از پژوهشگران شناخته‌شده مباحث ژئوپلیتیک ایران، موجب تأسف و اندوه است.

دکتر مجتهدزاده، که میهن‌دوستی او زبانزد همگان بود، بخش مهمی از عمر علمی خود را صرف پژوهش درباره جغرافیای ساسی، حاکمیت ملی و جایگاه راهبردی ایران در منطقه کرد. نام او به‌ویژه با پژوهش‌ها و مواضع علمی‌اش در دفاع از حاکمیت تاریخی و حقوقی ایران بر جزایر سه‌گانه ایرانی ابوموسی، تنب بزرگ و تنب کوچک، پیوند خورده است؛ موضوعی که همواره از مهم‌ترین مسائل مرتبط با تمامیت ارضی و منافع ملی ایران بوده است.

این ضایعه را به خانواده آن مرحوم، جامعه دانشگاهی، شاگردان و دوستداران او تسلیت می‌گویم و برای بازماندگان صبر و شکیبایی آرزو دارم.
