Was Christianity used as a political tool to colonise the African mind? African-American historian Dr John Henrik Clarke certainly thinks so.
He's argued Europeans stripped the religion of its African roots, visually “whitened” its imagery, and then repackaged and reintroduced it to Africans as a tool for subjugation. The intent, he suggests, was to shift focus away from resisting oppressors and toward the pursuit of spiritual rewards instead.
In this clip he urges us to reclaim our real religious heritage by studying the work of African scholars, including Chancellor Williams.
