Don’t miss the February issue of @CellSystemsCP! It is all about microbial communities! 🦠 Cool perspectives & reviews and many different opinions on the “key challenges for engineering microbiomes” (including my two cents on the topic). 👇🏼

@Mahan_Ghafari@ArisKatzourakis I can’t wait for the pictures of a diesel generator outside Peter Medawar with a sign that says “please switch off after convergence”
And you could totally add layers to this by considering the underlying genotype as well as things like the influence of variables external to the enzymes involved
Hey science twitter - is there such a thing as a synteny analysis for a metabolic pathway? Like not synteny of the genes in the genome but more like elements/steps in the pathway? Wouldn’t that be cool?! Someone help me elaborate this thought!
So we could line up the same pathway across different species and examine the differences, such as when an enzyme is lost or perhaps gains a certain function. We could call it comparative metabolics?
Refreshing to read an opinion on this question which doesn’t just say what we want to hear. The bottom line is - there are still many unknowns, and the virus has already shown that it can surprise us.

@TomOrrell86 I still derive value from the diagnosis, and the management tools that go with it, but i certainly prefer to integrate the symptoms into the full range of my personality traits, rather than see them as separate. I know this isn’t exactly a hot take but I just thought I’d share
@TomOrrell86 I don’t know if this is at all an appropriate comparison but with ADHD and a history of psychosis, I have found peace with seeing these not as things I have or have had, but rather just aspects of my psyche that contribute to who I am.
