Sunlight does far more for your health than just synthesize Vitamin D!
This article highlights fascinating science showing why natural sunlight boosts mood, cardiac health, and metabolic balance:
1. Nitric Oxide Release:
Sunlight triggers the skin to release nitric oxide into the bloodstream, widening blood vessels and improving heart health.
2. Red & Near-Infrared Light:
Penetrates tissues to stimulate cellular mitochondria, helping reduce inflammation, improve cellular energy (ATP), and potentially blunt post-meal blood sugar spikes.
3. Circadian Alignment:
Morning light exposure anchors your body clock, enhancing daytime alertness and nighttime sleep quality.
Practical Takeaway:
Get 20–30 minutes of natural outdoor light every morning!

In March 2020, when the COVID crash happened, the Nifty Financial Services index fell to a Price to Book of about 2.5x. Today it trades at around 2.3x, so the sector is valued lower now than it was during the crash.
In the last 4-5 years, investors money went into the likes of Defence, Capital goods, Pharma, PSU stocks etc. & these sectors ran up a lot. Financials did not move much, even though profits kept growing. The index trades at 2.3x book against its 10 year median of 3.4x, & at 15.1x earnings against a median of 19.5x. Its Return on Equity is 15.1%, close to the 10 year median of 15.9%. So these companies are earning almost what they always earned maybe very slightly lower), but the market is paying far too less for it. Actually, the top companies in this index grew profits at 12% to 15% a year over the last 4 years, but the banking index price grew at less than 6% a year.
There are some key reasons why the market is careful or rather overly careful here. Some lenders still have problems in unsecured loans & microfinance, margins can fall when interest rates come down, & banks are competing hard to get deposits. Also, the index average mixes very different businesses. Large private banks look cheap compared to their own history, but some PSU banks & NBFCs are cheap because their business quality is weaker.
If the index goes back to its median Price to Book of 3.4x, that is about 47% upside from valuation alone. Financials are around 33% of the Nifty 50, so that move would add roughly 15% to the Nifty by itself. This can take years though & it may not happen in a straight line.
If you want to add financials, a monthly SIP in a banking or financial services index fund is the easiest way, because you do not need to pick the right bank or the right month. If you prefer stocks, stick to couple of large banks (maybe one private and one public) and also a fast growing midcap bank whose business you understand. The prudent way would be to buy in parts over a few months, & plan to hold for at least 3 to 5 years.
