@thijsmakes This is a really honest and inspiring recap. I especially like the lesson about validating before building. Sometimes the idea you almost ignore ends up being the one with real potential. Congrats on that first $20 hoping Bard takes off! π
A good domain doesnβt have to be a perfect keyword.
Sometimes the best names are short, memorable, and brandable.
The real question is: would someone actually want to build a business on it?
What makes a domain valuable to you? π
Exactly asking price is basically a wish, landed price is the data point that actually matters. If NameBio's tracking .ai sales specifically, that'd be the place to check median vs a year ago, though I'd guess the sample size for one-word .ai's specifically might still be too thin to draw a solid trend from. Would be interesting to see if the gap between asking and landing has widened or narrowed as the .ai hype has matured a bit.
@mahmmou62910493 The 'Domain β Market β Buyers' framing is useful, though the hard part is usually step two mapping an actual market before you've bought the domain, not after. Curious how you research that before committing versus figuring it out post-purchase.
okay this feels good to say out loud β finally got my domain portfolio actually organized after months of "I'll do it later." tracking renewals, costs, everything in one place instead of just vibes and hope. small win but it feels huge π
just did the math on how much I've spent on renewals this year vs how much I've actually made from sales and now I understand why people say record keeping isn't optional lol
@Y_hashim1 Absolutely. The hardest part is often having the patience to recognize strategic value before the wider market does. Quality domains may take longer, but the right name can make the wait worthwhile.
@domainnamecom 20 years is an incredible journey! Itβs amazing how one domain purchase can turn into a lifelong passion. The market has changed so much since 2006, but the passion for great domains clearly hasnβt. Wishing you many more successful years! π
@cultra I really like this perspective. In a market built so much on trust and reputation, years of consistent work matter. Sometimes losing a great domain to a more established broker is also a reminder of what it takes to build that level of credibility.
@vunguyenanh20 This is exactly the gap worth watching. Acquisition tools and portfolio tracking solve different problems finding what to grab vs managing what you own. Most tools pick one lane. Curious if anyone's found something that handles the full lifecycle end-to-end.
@vunguyenanh20 Interesting approach. I think the biggest value here is not just finding dropping domains, but helping users decide what action to take next. Are you planning to add portfolio-level tracking as well?
nobody warns you that the real headache isn't finding good domains, it's when 8 of them decide to renew the same week and your brain has to make 8 keep-or-drop decisions at once
@TheBuyDomains@namesilo@PaulAndreola That's a serious concern, especially for anyone managing a large portfolio. It really highlights why keeping an independent record of domains, renewal dates, registration details and registrar information is so important. Hopefully NameSilo gets this resolved quickly.
saw someone say "should I spend thousands on this domain" turns into "could I use this someday" the second the price drops low enough. feels true for basically everything, not just domains
