Well, it's been quite a week at #ISME18 - I've met so many amazing people and developed a richer understanding of our field. Now back to the UK to decompress for a couple of days then back to the lab!
Day three of ISME18, Lausanne, Switzerland! Here's a snapshot from the opening ceremony on Sunday 🎉 Today I'm presenting my poster on community assembly mechanisms of rare and abundant cryoconite communities at board 364 on the lower floor 4pm-6pm. Come check it out! #ISME18
Are you an early career in Astrobiology/Planetary Sciences? Do you want to attend a symposium made by early careers for early careers? Let us know your interest! Shot the QR code and let's meet in La Palma in 2022 with the joined event AbGradEPEC (@abgradeurope@epec_epn)
@EmStreams It's hard to maintain narrative quality through to the end, and Mike Flanagan has had problems with that e.g. Haunting of Hill House - but Midnight Mass is his best work IMO
Finished watching Midnight Mass this morning and I don't think a programme has ever made me cry that much. Incredible writing and acting. Tender and compelling handling of God, death, predudice and religious fanatasism.
Today I submitted my first grant application to assist with my research costs! It certainly gives you a great feeling of ownership and pride in your work. Wish me luck 🤞🤞🤞

"DeepPurple fieldwork camp, set for six weeks on the Greenland Ice Sheet to study microbial life's impact on ice melting (22nd July 2021)." By @Rey_Mourot
Had a great time learning how to handle RNA-Seq data, quantify differential gene expression and ontology with the guys at @NERC_EOF yesterday. Can't wait to continue with the course tomorrow. Invaluable training that I hope can benefit my glacial microbial activity research!
I repeat- I haven’t been this excited about a discovery since CRISPR. We found something enigmatic that, like CRISPR, is associated with microbial genomes. We have named these unique entities #BORGs
