As the world around us grows ever more frightening and loud and frankly bonkers, I find it hugely reassuring to watch how Nature carries on regardless. Paying no heed to our politics and crises, she breezes through the lanes. As the daffodils fade, the dandelions bloom. The hawthorn hedges are green again and the chiff-chaffs have returned. No matter what happens in Westminster or Washington, soon the bluebells will brighten the woods, the swallows will fly in, and the oak leaves will unfurl. Out here, all is as it should be.
