Admission to hospital at end of life is the only safe and responsible outcome for many people.
Collating palliative care admissions/ deaths in hospital as one “negative” ignores the fact that dying in hospital is absolutely the best place for many people and often supported exceptionally well.
Without reliable and timely access to social care, trained nursing/medical care, symptom control medicines and equipment, admissions to hospital will remain the only option for many.
Hospice beds are limited.
Future care planning and preferred place of care/death need to always take into consideration the local availability of resources. Without the infrastructure in place those who do remain at home will continue to face challenges and those involved in caring for them may worry about future deaths in community lowering professional thresholds for hospital referral.
Community, front door and ward patient care are one large continuum but it starts and often ends (admission and discharge) back with a focus on community.
@julielawtn Structural problems that need to be addressed. Nursing and healthcare are not typically family friendly.
The data also shows that men are promoted faster and further with fewer qualifications. So flexibility is only part of the story. Capable women are overlooked.

I'm sure, other than NMC chair, that they're capable people.
But in a 90% female profession were there really no suitable female candidates?

In January 2024, 54,000
The public must understand #NHS reality to demand change #BREATHTAKING
Shout out to all the nurses and healthcare professionals for #MHNursesDay but a special mention to my sister @Gemrose84 and best friend @AmyMarshNurse for all your hard work and selflessness for helping others ❣️
I watched #Breathtaking today and it reminded me of what I said in this tweet at the time👇
So much in this country is defined by spin. It’s not just the government that’s at fault. It’s the spin machines too.
Ep 2 of #BREATHAKING airs on @itv at 9pm.
We address the scandal of care home residents being thrown to the wolves & the trauma of a colleague fighting for their life in ICU having caught Covid, without PPE, in the hospital.
It's tough. But please watch if you can.
#NHS 💙
When you looked the public in the eye & claimed there were no national shortages of PPE, you were lying @MattHancock.
You knew the FFP3s weren’t there.
You knew staff were dying.
Where is your apology to all those NHS staff left disabled or who died?

It’s #CervicalCancerPreventionWeek.
Cervical screening can help stop cancer before it starts. If you missed your last one, book an appointment with your GP practice. You may also be able to book with your local sexual health service.

Pretty amazing finding - new analysis from Scotland shows NO CASES OF CERVICAL CANCER in women vaccinated at 12 or 13 years of age. The HPV vaccine has been remarkably effective. Exactly what was expected, but nevertheless fantastic news.
