🚀 Firewall Defense — Devlog Update!

I'm probably on my 50th playtest of Firewall Defense at this point, hunting down bugs, and guess what? I've already found another one! 😂

Turns out, Shield Capacity upgrade cards weren't saving properly when exiting the game. But here's the weird part: whenever I picked up another Shield Capacity card, all my previous stacks would suddenly return!

Today I'll also be testing whether Health Regeneration cards are accidentally affecting Shield Regeneration speed. Hopefully no more surprises... 😂

I've also been thinking about scrapping the entire card upgrade system.

I see these systems in so many games now, and honestly, I'm getting tired of them. I want Firewall Defense to offer something fresh and unique rather than following the same formula.

I haven't decided what will replace it yet, but I've got some thinking to do. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Back to Act 1!

I'm returning to Act 1 to give it another polishing pass. I've probably polished this area five times already, and I guarantee I'll find another excuse to polish it again the next time I return. 😂

I'm also excited to share that I've brought on concept artist @AmyMartin_1 ! We'll be collaborating on Act 1's maps, visual direction and story. I genuinely can't wait to see what we create together!

Still a long road ahead, but I'm enjoying bringing this universe to life, one improvement (and one unexpected bug) at a time. ❤️

I’ve been noticing for quite some time that many people choose AI generated artwork instead of commissioning hand drawn art. One justification I often hear is that AI gives them the outcome they want and can produce artwork much faster even from people who can afford to commission an artist.

I want to make it clear that my intention isn’t to say, “I’m an artist, so you should commission me.” That’s not my point at all. Please commission whichever artist you feel is the right fit for your project. I just hope we can continue to respect and appreciate real, hand drawn artwork and the skill behind it.

Think about it this way: if a game studio said, “We can make our game faster with AI, so we’re going to make it entirely with AI,” many gamers and content creators might reject that game because they value the creativity and work of real people behind it.

There’s much more I could say about this topic, but I’ll end with this: please respect artists and their skills, whether they’re a well known professional or someone who is just starting out. Every artist puts time, effort, and creativity into what they make, and that deserves respect. 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️

That’s a fair question! I’m a digital artist, and I do hand-drawn designs, illustrations, artwork, and animation. What I meant is that some people just type a prompt, generate digital artwork with AI, and present it as original art, even using it on their channels. What are your thoughts on that?

I’m really sorry to hear that you lost your job, that must have been very hard.
To answer your question, I think human art has something AI can’t copy: personal style, emotion, and the story behind each piece.
These days, though, many people aren’t using AI as just a tool. They’re trying to use it as if they were a proper artist, and that can lower people’s respect for real art. I don’t mean everyone does this. Very few people treat AI art as an original art piece, but we should spread as much awareness as we can.

An artist has to study art first, then spend months and years practicing just to develop one finished style, and only then are they ready to take commissions. After all those years of study and practice, it really hurts to see AI become so dominant and people accept it as real art.

I do hand drawn work only, and that’s what I focus on. Thank you for your support!
