Seeing my nonfiction in print in the @IowaReview - what a feeling. My piece is about amenorrhea and television and menstrual pamphlets from the 1920s. It's personal and researched. It's bloody.
My world feels very tender right now, and I will treasure this.

I just sent in paperwork to publish my essay on periods, amenorrhea, why no one bleeds on Gilmore Girls, and menstrual pamphlets from the 1920s, so yes, I'm in a good mood today ๐๐
I am so grateful to have won this contest, especially for a venue like @BLReview that specifically focuses on illness and healing. My eating disorder was never formally diagnosed; it went by many aliases. Being here and being healthy enough to tell that story is an honor.
We are thrilled to announce the 2021 BLR Literary Prize winners! Congratulations all!

Maybe someday I'll be cool about seeing my work in print...but today is not that day ๐
I'm so excited that my issue of BLR arrived! I worked on this piece for years and years and it feels magical to finally see it out in the world.
