Just a lil reminder that it's INDUSTRY that calls it a "critical mineral." Most folks aren't sitting around the dinner table talking about Very Import Coal deposits + how they should be mined so that millionaires can become billionaires (while polluting ecosystems and water).
Alberta will grow the production of metallurgical aka steel making coal.
Many AB based underground projects are pending for what much of the world calls a CRITICAL MINERAL.
It just makes sense.
🚨NEWS: The CEO of Alberta energy regulator CEO cancelled the public hearing for a proposed coal project in the Eastern Slopes at the request of coal company Summit Coal Inc.
This action is unprecedented and removes transparency.

📽️We're stoked to sponsor Until the Last Drop, which will be playing at the Calgary Justice Film Festival @justicefilm on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m.

🧵With all these restrictions proposed for renewable energy development by @YourAlberta, ever wonder how much land is actually left for these projects?
We did.

When you think about today's political climate where some are still reluctant to acknowledge the threat of climate change, it’s hard to believe Alberta aimed to reduce its emissions by 50% below 1990 levels by 2020.
Unfortunately, Alberta never lived up to this goal.

Did you know that Alberta led the way on climate change legislation in Canada?! 🧵A THREAD
In 2003, Alberta passed its Climate Change and Emissions Reduction Act, and at the time, it was the ONLY climate change-related legislation in Canada.

❗ Imperial Oil made $1.13 BILLION in just one quarter this year. Charging them only $50K for a massive, months-long spill that affected local communities and ecosystems is NOT a sufficient punishment. #ABPoli#ABLeg#CDNPoli
🧵We’re thinking about everyone who has been forced to leave their homes due to wildfires this summer, and those who may have also faced loss as a result. And all those, including our non-human relatives, impacted by the smoke. 1/
Grizzly bear biologists are calling out the Minister on his grizzly bear population and euthanasia numbers. Please write to Minister Loewen ([email protected]) and your MLA if you haven't already! #SaveABGrizzlies

WHY is the Alberta government allowing THREATENED grizzly bears to be hunted if they are deemed a "problem"?
The Wildlife Act was changed recently WITHOUT public consultation nor legislative review by Minister Todd Loewen.
@YourAlberta reopened Crescent falls after investing tax payer dollars to fix it up as a rec area. Ironically, the area is entirely surrounded by coal leases...
Seems like money wasted if these areas are allowed to be polluted by industry!
⚠️You read that right: A proposed carbon capture project in Alberta, involving over 600 kilometres of pipelines, and 18,000 km2 of carbon storage might skip an enviro impact assessment.
@ACFN_KaiTaile + several enviro groups are urging the AB gov't to conduct one.

❗Provincially approved logging plans in the Eastern Slopes headwaters were set to march forward with little to no consideration for how they might exacerbate the expected drought conditions, writes AWA's Devon Earl.
