Clarity is among the most important things in leadership
Without clarity of purpose, expectations, and vision it is nearly impossible for people to hit the target
As a leader, take the time necessary to to very clear to yourself and others what really matters
If a formal observation is the first time you are in a teachers classroom, then put the evaluation form away. Sit, listen, and then leave a note of thanks, praise or encouragement. Relationships first!
The most important factor for student success in the classroom is the teacher. So, when we hear to do what's best for the kids, that actually means to value, support, and appreciate teachers. Morale greatly impacts teaching/ learning.
Effective leaders focus on developing a culture of “we”. Here’s a few tips to help:
* focus on staff needs
* build relationships
* encourage collaboration
* ask input/feedback
* have their back
* show appreciation
* check on them/ SEL
* be visible/ present
Don't buy a program.
Don't add more interventions.
Don't spend additional money.
Don't look at new curriculums.
Want to get learners where they need to be?
Do bring staff together.
Do decide on common beliefs & practices.
Do redesign Tier 1 with impact built-in.
This works.
Not a big secret.
What's needed to make Tier 1 successful at your school?
1. Adults who love & believe in their kids
2. Adults who commit to designing the best learning for their kids
Having these essentials in place ensures the rest of our work together will impact learning.
We can’t motivate or punish a student into performing a skill that has not been taught and the student does not possess yet. Teach, role model, prompt and reinforce the skills we wish to see students consistently apply.
