You can change the world by changing the world around you. Passionate about the possibilities of SA's future. A mathematics teacher obsessed with Formula 1.
Watched a learner struggling to remember 5 facts for a history exam today. In a world where information is available online within seconds, are fact based exams still relevant? What we can learn from those facts are surely more important? #FutureTrends
The technology already exists! We aren't even using it in well funded schools! Imagine if mathematics teachers work together to build a SA version of Khan Academy that allows all math learners to progress successfully at their own pace? #FutureTrends

The use of technology can adres both the issue of weak content knowledge as well as that of mother tongue education as identified in this article by Dr Ramphele. It could also impact the fifth issue of community involvement and development. #FutureTrends

Technology can improve all 4 factors required by Carroll's model of school learning! More time available to study. Better understanding because of multimedia presentation. Expertly created content. Add gaming elements to increase perseverance! #FutureTrends
Two great podcasts with leader guides by Craig Groeschel on how you can be a leader even though you are not in charge.

Are we using the lack of devices or infrastructure as an excuse? To learn the basics of coding doesn't require fancy equipment! And once the basics are there learning different languages are not that hard. #FutureTrends
If you can learn to code, you can code to learn. These first graders are exploring computational thinking with vocabulary and numeracy!

When all learners in a class receive the same lesson the average mark will reflect their average ability. If learners receive education with lessons adapted according to the aptitude of each learner, most learners should master the content. Tech already allow this! #FutureTrends
@samnaidoo1304 Unfortunately I don't think these trainings can be the average two hour long watered down workshops we usually receive. Provide teachers with proper training which is properly certified if you want them to be serious about it. Proper training will require expensive experts.
@claudi_chats Exactly!
Learners need to be exposed to people doing amazing things. They must want to study hard to realise their absolutely ridiculous dreams which they have while they are young! A kid with a dream is a kid on a mission!
The 4IR in action. People moving to careers or industries that didn't exist 10 or even 5 years ago! #FutureTrends
Are your school putting in the effort of exposing learners to various careers? I sometimes feel learners 'fail' because they don't dream.

Within a 60km radius around me there are +/- 100 other mathematics teachers preparing our own individual lessons for the week.
Imagine the time we can save if we COLLABORATE in groups of 20 planning a grades's lessons or topics together? Technology allows this! #FutureTrends
Great leaders starts with why! Great TED Talk by Simon Sinek on leadership. "People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it!" - Simon Sinek #FutureTrends

@Sarah_Hassain_ Unfortunately, according to Abraham Maslow, we can have all the tech in the world. Before we cover the basics needed for survival children will not be able to reach their potential. #FutureTrends
Prof Marwala wrote: "...those who do not know should not lead?"
Are educational leaders truly aware of what concepts such as "Growth Mindset", "Transformative Leadership", or "4IR" mean? Or are they just quoting buzz words to sound intelligent?
