@LadyLily_Writer Well, as for my 2 cents on this then: I'd keep Lt. as how other officers address the character, but I'd perhaps have the narrator switch between detective/Lt./name depending on the context of the scene and what he/she is doing to avoid reader fatigue.

@LadyLily_Writer Hmm, using third person? If this is a stand-alone title with no previous conventions you have to abide by, I'd personally vary how the narrator frames the character: if it becomes too prescriptive/predictable it feels detrimental on the reader-end of the page.

@SNicHorn92 @NathanTheAuthor What gets me about those people is the sheer level of financial gatekeeping they'll happily partake in. They'll spend thousands on professional tools and paid human labor, but if we spend 20 bucks on a sassy spellchecker and research assistant we're the lazy horrible ones?

@LadyLily_Writer From other members of the force, they would always address the rank, or rank + name, unless they're very close. For civilian speakers, it would be a mixed bag that is context/speaker dependent. So yeah, "Lt." would be proper and correct in most cases, but i'd still vary it.

@LadyLily_Writer Uniformed services usually have strict nomenclature standards, and to my knowledge one addresses the rank, not the branch, almost universally (rather, universally to my knowledge, I'm just admitting there might be rare exceptions).

@JamieAdStories I always preferred third person more, because first person feels narratively limited, it's always stuck in the same perspective. Using third person, a good writer can zoom in or zoom out as far as every situation calls for.

@chrisgbrenning There's one thing i very rarely see and desperately want to see more often: a world that is not inherently fucked at every turn that is worth preserving. Call me a contrarian, but the classic POV of overthrowing the generic evil regime TM has gone stale.

@ReclaimTheNetHQ Actually, it's so much dumber it makes you question your own sanity. A young girl offed herself live on Instagram, so discord (the only comp that complied with gov) gets axed by a combo of unelected first lady with no gov position and an agency without judicial powers.

@monsterhunter45 Honestly, well done worldbuilding in a story that really explores that world is one of the most worthwhile endeavors a writer can undertake. However, if the world itself doesn't matter to the narrative, it's a waste of time.

@rierikawaii @tuxholden More like areas already dominated by cartels have pipelines that starts onboarding literal children from a very young age. There's no need for failed policies in that case, young people who grow up surrounded by crime see it as the easy way out of poverty.

@Mashiro_yuh Hmm, there's other ways to word it that would feel natural in English, but they're tone dependent. "They got bigger fish to fry" is the old-school classic, but give then context of the panel you posted I may have gone with "They won't get up without a body or a warrant".
