Today I launched an AI app that can turn almost any idea into a draft patent application in minutes.
No legal training required.
Just describe the idea and answer a short interview.
The system generates a structured provisional patent draft — including figures.
Here’s how it works 👇
OpenAI has been sued for trademark infringement in San Francisco federal court by TradeSun, a Del Mar, California, software company that says it has sold AI products under the Astra name since 2021, Reuters and Bloomberg Law reported on Monday, October 5.
TradeSun's Astra uses AI agents to analyze trade documents for banks and other financial institutions, and the company won a federal trademark registration for the name for AI software services in 2022. Its complaint argues "reverse confusion": OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, launched on September 3, is marketed so heavily that customers may now assume TradeSun's product belongs to OpenAI or is built on its model. "By saturating the market with 'Astra,' OpenAI is teaching the public that Astra means OpenAI," the filing says. TradeSun wants a court order barring OpenAI from using the name, a ruling that it infringed the mark, OpenAI's profits from it and unspecified damages. "Being one of the biggest technology companies in the world does not entitle OpenAI to our trademark," founder and CEO Nigel Hook said. An OpenAI spokesperson said the complaint "lacks any merit whatsoever." The case is TradeSun Inc. v. OpenAI OpCo LLC, No. 3:26-cv-11360.
Why it matters: naming a flagship AI model is now a legal risk, not just a marketing call.
