An afternoon with a group of veterans who lost limbs & witnessed horrors but are able to talk about how they are confronting their trauma. All while cracking dark jokes and keeping us in non-stop laughter. I love that they have this space and support for their tight-knit group.

Because it’s a playground and a sky with no bombs, I told him. Unlike the sky under which children in Ukraine play.

"А памʼятаєш ти написав мені в вотсап: «заїжджаєм в Бахмут, через чотири дні буду на звʼязку»?
Я стояла посеред епіцентру і вибирала штори, а ти посеред Бахмуту вибирав підвал в який не прилетить С-300.

Я відкрила карту в діпстейт і шукала поміж квадратиків тебе.
Я не знайшла тебе, але на карті було чітко видно як червоне повзе до тебе, як воно хоче пофарбувати твій підвал.

Весь твій підвал, від підлоги до стелі.

Я стояла у відділі штор і не могла ні вдихнути ні видихнути.

Тут по радіо сказали, що Олену Генадіївну Синегуб просять підійти на касу, а я знаєш, я б теж хотіла попросити тебе підійти на касу.

Бо в мене були дуже важкі штори у візку, як же я допхаю їх сама до машини? Особливо без кисню в крові. Бо я не можу ні вдихнути ні видихнути. Без кисню мої мʼязи стають слабші. Я така слабка без кисню. І без тебе.

Знаєш, я отак постояла, без повітря, і думаю, блін, нада щось робити. Ти ж вийдеш на звʼязок за чотири дні, а я до того моменту задихнусь.

І я спитала в штучного інтелекту, що треба робити, якщо твій чоловік в Бахмуті. Він сказав, що це дуже складна ситуація тому треба підтримувати чоловіка і подбати про себе. Він порадив спілкуватись не акцентуючи увагу на негативі, писати про події в моєму житті і про свої почуття. А щоб подбати про себе добре підходить арт-терапія - помалювати пальчиками, виліпити щось з глини.

Тому я пішла у відділ плитки. Подивилась плиткорізи, взяла болгарку і почала займатись арт-терапією. Найкраще допомагало різати плитку. Мені хотілось не зупинятись і розрізати все навколо - підлогу, три квартири під нами, три шари землі і врешті розрізати земну кору, щоби мене затопило магмою разом із кухнею. Я зупинялась тільки тому, що було шкода собаку. Я люблю нашого собаку, знаєш. Не хочу, щоб його затопило магмою.

А ще я писала тобі слова підтримки, щоранку і щовечора. Вони збирались довгими недоставленими караванами, і кожне - з сірою галочкою. Знаєш, з сірою, як сухий ґрунт, як камінь біля дороги, як зимове небо і бруд, коли сніг тане і перемішується з землею. Сірими, а не синіми, як небо, коли починається літній день і ти відкриваєш вікно, а там все таке велике, сяюче і голуби скачуть, як скажені. Я вірила, що сірі галочки мають стати синіми, одного дня.

Я писала тобі повідомлення: «вичесала собаку, тепер якщо захочу то зможу звʼязати тобі пояс із собачої шерсті. Нащо ми взяли таку волохату породу? люблю тебе»
Я писала «ходила в перукарню. Дивись, мене здається, якось криво постригли. Чи нормально? Люблю тебе»

Я писала «потік унітаз, викликала майстра а він може тільки в сьомій ранку, тепер прийдеться встать дуже рано. Люблю тебе»
Вдих видих, вдих видих, вдих видих.

Дуже важко вичесати собаку, якщо одночасно бути в Бахмуті.
Знаєш, мене сильно відволікали усі ці ваші вибухи, я сіпалась, лякала тварину, в мене тричі падала щітка. І ходити в перукарню, якщо ти одночасно в Бахмуті, дуже дивно. Відкриваєш очі - перукарня, закриваєш - підвал. Мабуть тому мене так криво постригла майстриня.

Але найгірше це дзвінки з невідомих номерів. Двічі мені дзвонили онлайн-казино і один раз юридична компанія. І щоразу я вмирала. Отже, всього я, виходить, вмирала тричі.

Я знаю, ось так вони дзвонять дружинам, ці невідомі номери, ти знімаєш трубку, а звідти випадає смерть і зупиняє тобі серце.
Ользі з моєї роботи так дзвонили. Вона в ванній стояла одною ногою, а другою вже вилізла і от в такому положенні дізналась що чоловіка вбили на війні.
Ні там, ні сям, враскоряку дізналась.

Тому я акуратно сідала кудись і потім брала трубку, щоби, знаєш все було контрольовано."

Croatia has acted responsibly and transparently on regional energy security - and we will do so again for our Hungarian @FM_Szijjarto and Slovak friends @SakovaSr, while fully respecting our Ukrainian allies and the daily suffering they endure.

When we were told the Adria pipeline had “no capacity” - it did, and it does.
When we were accused of “war profiteering” - our tariffs were and remain transparent and market-based.

When Croatia was labelled an “unreliable transit country” - we kept critical infrastructure stable and uninterrupted, independent of any political accusations.

Croatia will not allow Central Europe’s fuel supply to be endangered. We are ready to help solve the acute disruption, within EU law and OFAC regulations. No one should be left without fuel.

But honestly, here’s the lesson @EU_Commission. The Adria pipeline is ready, so there are no technical excuses left for staying tied to Russian crude for any EU country. A barrel bought from Russia may appear cheaper to some countries, but helps fund war and attacks on Ukrainian people.
It’s time to stop that war profiteering.

P.S. Infrastructure does not change overnight. Narratives sometimes do.

Students at Black Sea University love their school. More than 3,500 of them & a growing number who are veterans. School administration is now grappling with how to make campus accessible. Interesting hallways like one pictured are going to make this hard but they are committed.

With such a huge deficit of skilled labour in Ukraine it is so important to create conditions for young people to learn robotics, electronics and other technical trades. These vocational schools are such an interesting mix of past, present and future. 🇺🇳🇺🇦🇩🇰 #mykolaiv 🌊

The situation in the city has improved so much since I first visited in November 2022 that I had numerous team members requesting a transfer from other parts of the country. Now we focus on new results over next three years. 🇺🇦🇺🇳🇩🇰
