@NeutralCurrent@JeremiahDJohns Well, not to say it’s the cause of everything, but if someone is morbidly obese and has health issues losing the weight is probably a step in the right direction. Never really understood the outrage at that one.
@Solar122isTaken@SpaghettiKozak It’s something about the video feed I feel like. It would be absurd to be mad about targeting enemy troops with long range fires but put a camera on the front and suddenly it’s a war crime.
@_mickydicky@brokenastro89@BenK_Data Taxation by lottery would be interesting, but I am just not sure there is the revenue there to even fund a military much less anything else. Only the innumerate are playing the lottery that often and they frankly are probably not very often high-productivity citizens.
@durty_keyboard@brokenastro89@BenK_Data Certainly if I was in charge I’d be 100x more worried about cutting spending rather than bringing in new revenue, it’s just on this specific property tax debate I guess I just don’t understand why property owners are so put out by paying for local services. As a property owner.
@_mickydicky@brokenastro89@BenK_Data Ok I was curious which of those two you were getting at.
I personally think anarchism is a bad idea and humanity has not shown we can handle it, what’s your vision of a world with no government?
@durty_keyboard@brokenastro89@BenK_Data I am probably what some would consider “extremist” with how much of the current state, local and federal government I would throw in the burn pile.
However, at least how I see things, when that is done you still need to pay for what’s left, however you want to do that.
@durty_keyboard@brokenastro89@BenK_Data I am pretty conservative in many of my beliefs and think government spending needs to be cut significantly.
However, even when that is done, we will still need roads, schools, military forces, etc. and those have to be funded from somewhere, whether property, income, sales, etc
@brokenastro89@BenK_Data The main thing in tax debates is ultimately, money has to come in somewhere. We can debate over how much to collect and where to collect it, but the state requires income to function. I own a home but property taxes seem intuitive to me, with the services they are tied to.
@Mediumraw16@Judeodeadlift@Empty_America I am not disagreeing with any of that which is what I have been trying to get across. I am not “lapping up propaganda I am “keeping up with what our politicians say and do and thinking about why they think that’s how you get votes”
@Judeodeadlift@Mediumraw16@Empty_America I don’t understand why it is so hard to get across that I am not even saying anything about my opinion on this or any other political messaging, what I am saying is that it is valuable to see what politicians say and do to study “what people want to see in a politician”
@Mediumraw16@Empty_America In a democracy, politicians have to win votes. To win votes, you have to make people like and trust you. Back then, being a guy who cut your own brush did that.
These days, not as much. It’s interesting to look at why, if you are interested in examining our culture.
@Mediumraw16@Empty_America I think what he’s getting at is that even if this is propaganda, it still says something about culture to examine it. It’s associating itself with something you don’t see politicians doing as much these days.
@zeelee3D@melissa I have played a lot of chess and loved it, but that’s what kind of killed my passion for the game. Memorizing and repeating positions is great and helps you win, but it just doesn’t feel like a fun game, at least to me, that way. I always wished there was more randomness.
@MostlyMonkey Are you including that their employer also has to pay a match on FICA and SS, hell add in unemployment if you think that program shouldn’t exist
