Someone tweeted that the delta between a software developer's understanding of a business process and the reality of that process is a common problem.
A far more common delta is between the physical data architecture of software solutions and the taxonomy of the business.
@thisisacesspit I am the business ontology champion on every project. Some clients don't want to know because they think the only measure of success is software in production. By the time they realise the software does not match the business reality, those stakeholders have moved on.

I told him it was the wrong question, which puzzled him.
Instead, I listed all the activities I perform for my client and then said: “Put whatever label you need to on that.”

Result: companies document such complex decision logic as a textual stream of isolated rules...
