Deeply shocked to know about the devastating fire incident of Kuwait, which has already taken a toll of more than 40 lives. My condolences to the bereaved families.

I have instructed my Chief Secretary and Resident Commissioner in Delhi to be in constant touch with Ministry of External Affairs to know about the wellbeing of people of West Bengal origin in Kuwait and to take all appropriate steps on emergent basis.

Happy to announce that we are now releasing today onwards Rs. 2900 crore directly into the bank accounts of our about 1.05 crore farmers ( including Bargadars) enrolled under our Krishak Bandhu ( Natun) scheme. This is the first dose of financial assistance for Kharif season 2024, and an equal second instalment will go for Ravi season later this year.

For cultivable land of one acre onwards, a farmer gets Rs.10000/-, and for lesser quantum of land, proportionate amount with minimum being Rs.4000/- per year. Since inception in 2019, a sum of 18,234 crore has thus reached the farmers' accounts.

In addition, for a farmer dying between 18 and 60, his family gets death compensation of 2 lakh. Total 1,12,000 bereaved families in West Bengal have received total 2240 crore in last few years on this account.

We are committed to our farmers' economic betterment and social security.

Last year around this time, I had the opportunity to participate in NABOJOWAR Yatra and traveled across West Bengal to understand the issues and challenges faced by people on the ground. Witnessing firsthand the hardships caused by RISING PRICES and the stoppage of MGNREGA dues deeply affected me. In response, @AITCofficial organized statewide protests and took the matter to Delhi to fight for people's rights. Thankfully, this was addressed in February, along with an increase in financial assistance through the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme to help families.

I am profoundly grateful to the people of Bengal for their trust and faith in us. The results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections reflect the anger and frustration of the people, especially regarding the neglect of basic housing rights due to the state-center conflict. We have committed to addressing this by December 31st, and I have already requested the HCM and relevant authorities of GoWB to prioritize this issue.

In light of some pressing medical reasons, I will be taking a short hiatus from the organisation. This time off will be an opportunity for me to humbly explore and understand the needs of our people and community. I trust that GoWB will act swiftly and leave no stone unturned to ensure justice for those in need.

Saddened at the demise of our former MLA and ex Deputy Mayor of Kolkata, Iqbal Ahmed. He was an active public worker and a leading sports administrator in the Kolkata Maidan by dint of his role in Mohammedan Sporting Club.
