Safdarjung hospital is already famous for its Toxicity and harassment issues reported earlier with the resident doctors .

Repetitive suicides and depression there is an indication that something is wrong there and needs to be corrected on immediate basis along with all the medical colleges of the country .

Tragic incident : A 3rd year Medicine PG resident from top medical institution Safdarjung hospital (Delhi) has committed suicide.

What’s shocking me is he was not any ordinary doctor mentally or physically ! He was a Top level Black belt martial artist and an International rated chess player along with active presence on all the social issues
Mentioning it for those who think that only weak people do suicides !

Depression in this country and specially amongst doctors is not just an illness anymore rather it’s an “Pandemic” now !

The govt and authorities should realise it before more losses happen .
Just to remind it is the 4th suicide amongst doctors within last 1-2 weeks !

1. DNB exams are always more fair and unbiased than MS/MD and without home turf advantage. Therefore, errors during practical are unlikely to be ignored! There is no way any internal examiner can say this candidate has been good all three years, and must be passed despite not-so-good performance on the day of exams. On the strict grounds, most MS/MD candidates may also not pass. But there is always home advantage for the latter. The internal MS/MD examiners do think about % of result given. Many private colleges have internal dictat of giving a good result, and fail only exceptionally poor candidate. However, strictly examined, many more would fail but they pass. Several Govt colleges may have some bias/favouritism issue!

Point 2, 3 are about several DNB center and not all centres. Many old renowned DNB centres are very good, and better than new MS/MD crap colleges!

2. The cases kept at DNB exam centres (many are at Medical colleges) are of wide spectrum, which DNB trainee might not have seen at all. Type of 'routine cases' seen and presented during DNB training at many DNB centres are not the ones which are kept during exams. For e.g, one student whom I know is pursuing DNB ortho at one of the corporate hosp at Delhi barely sees chronic osteomyelitis/Polio/Chronic nerve injuries/fracture complications/Paeds ortho/.. and the list is long. All he sees is replacement, scopy, spinal stabilisation, fresh uncomplicated trauma etc. Now, latter type cases are not kept during exams. He also tells me that the teaching standards are poor.
3. Teaching/academics is not-so-good at many DNB centres. Most 'teachers' are practicing consultants who practice in and out of the hospital. Therefore, many cannot teach what is relevant for exams. Many DNB centres are new with consultants with minimal teaching and training experience. However, old good DNB centers have great faculty who have excellent experience.
