Today, the twice-impeached former White-Supremacist-in-Chief was arraigned, saw a judge, and went back home. Meanwhile, there are people being held in jails across our country waiting to see a judge just to prove their innocence. There are two justice systems in America.
Dissociation. Feeling like you’re moving through life but aren’t really there. Things just happen around you but they don’t feel real. Feeling detached from your body. Feeling like you’re watching yourself from the outside. Feeling disconnected and numb. Nothing feels real. /3
if you’re ever wondering who the baddies are, it’s the folks who are trying to de-fund public schools, shut down colleges, museums and libraries, and ban books while flooding the streets with dangerous weapons.
Rereading Matilda reminded me that public libraries are at times the only place where children in abusive households can find out that better relationships, better lives and a better future are possible.
maybe she’s born with it, maybe she uses humor and fiction as defense mechanisms to deal with her chronic anxiety and the nagging worry that the world as she knows it will end in her lifetime
Matilda’s parents are a traditional nuclear family, and they are portrayed as unloving and dysfunctional. Miss Honey is an unmarried, childless working woman who is portrayed as Matilda’s wise mentor. It’s a subtly subversive story, and I love it.
