One thing I dislike about eating games is how some participants put their mouths directly over the plate while eating.

Even the one I share saliva with knows I can't stand that habit. If he tries it while we're eating together, I'll simply leave the food.

And leaving won't stop me from correcting that wrong impression.

Before anyone thinks I just developed this habit as an adult, let me tell you a little story.

When my elder brother and I were kids, my mum eventually bought us separate plates because of this very issue.

I've always been very selective when it comes to food, and even the slightest manipulation of it irritates me.

Back then, whenever I ate with my brother, I would end up leaving the food in tears, and that would be the end of me asking for food.

My brother had a very healthy appetite, so my mum would often serve us from the same plate, believing that watching him eat would encourage me to eat more too. But I hardly ate well. No matter how little food she served me, I always struggled to finish it.

Okro soup was my brother's greatest weapon against me.

The moment he dipped his fingers into it and stirred it, oh God of mercy... you can imagine how horrible it looked to me.

I complained so much that my mum eventually gave us separate plates.

Personally, I can't participate in eating competitions that involve everyone eating directly from the same plate with one spoon.

I've even organized eating games in my former compound, so I know exactly what I'm talking about.

The organiser should do better, and the participants should adhere to rules and regulations
