I spoke to two TVK supporters today about the Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu being pushed to the third place. Their response was, “Why are you making it an issue? It was still sung anyway.”

And that’s exactly where they’re missing the point. This is how these things begin. First it gets pushed to third place, then one day it may slowly stop being given importance altogether. And even then, some people will still ask, “So what’s wrong with that?”

That’s how we slowly lose our place, bit by bit, without even realising it. Many of you fail to see the bigger picture and how these small shifts can eventually affect our identity and our beautiful Tamil language in the years to come.
