UPDATE:

As directed by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, the operator, OVERLAND AIRWAYS has reverted with clarification from the Nigeria Revenue Service, NRS, as follows:

That tickets purchased before January 1, 2026 were not affected by the new tax laws. This means that passengers who were made to pay VAT before check in 2026 for tickets purchased since 2025, were not supposed to have been charged.

Overland Airways, a responsible,law-abiding entity, therefore, has committed to redress the situation by initiating a refund for affected passengers.

It is necessary to re-clarify that, even in my initial update about this case, I stated the reasons why the airline felt a need to charge VAT in the way that it did. The onus was on the NRS to clarify, which they have now done. I was also clear about the position of the NCAA.

This issue has now been brought to a satisfactory conclusion, and Overland Airways has shown transparency, cooperation, and responsibility.

I also must appreciate my colleague directors, Mrs. Olayinka Babaoye-Iriobe (Air Transport Regulations), and Mrs Mary Tufano-Eche (Legal) for collaborating with my directorate on this. Strengthening Regional Skies: Nigeria and Cameroon Sign Historic Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement!

The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, @fkeyamo , SAN, CON, led a high-level Nigerian delegation to Yaoundé, Cameroon, on Friday, February 27th. There, he joined his Cameroonian counterpart, the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Ngallé Bibehe, to formally sign the Bilateral Agreement on Technical Aeronautical Search and Rescue Operations.

This pivotal pact between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Cameroon enhances airspace safety by enabling faster, more coordinated responses to aviation emergencies across our shared borders.

The Minister was accompanied by the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and key directors from the Ministry, ensuring a unified approach to implementation.

The strategic partnership fully aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises:

Yesterday, I led a high-level Nigerian delegation to Yaoundé, Cameroon to meet my Cameroonian counterpart, the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest NgalNgallé Bibehe, to formally sign the Bilateral Agreement on Technical Aeronautical Search and Rescue Operations.

Earlier today, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed , the Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja, led a high-powered delegation from the University to my office on a working visit. They came in respect of the proposed Baze University Aviation School, which is to be sited in Bwari, with its own runway for training of pilots and aviation-related courses.

I assured them of the full cooperation and support of the Federal Government towards a realisation of the project and immediately directed my Permanent Secretary and all relevant aviation agencies to hasten all bureaucratic processes to ensure its take-off.

Here is wishing a very fulfilling birthday to my Honourable Minister, @fkeyamo SAN. A man of his word and true patriot, the aviation minister is an example of what sheer grit, focus, and commitment can achieve, not just for an individual, but to the nation. A master of many crafts, Chief Keyamo is a man I am proud to work with because he has shown that one can be successful through diligence. To him, everything else is simply an addition; genuine work supercedes all. I celebrate a leader and a believer in the Nigeria project. I admire his support for Mr. President, and how he has motivated those of us in the aviation sector to aim for excellence. Congratulations, boss. God bless you always.
