Likewise, if you want Malfoid to become canon, there's a well-worn path to get there. Do this:
1. Encourage and inspire others outside of the Malfoid movement to start incorporating her in their media or real life. @NWBroJaneway and @NW_Viking are trying to do this. Emulate their examples.
2. Put Malfoid into as many different forms of media as you can, so she cannot be excised easily from Harry Potter media. Pictures/Prose, whether lore-centered or speculative/Movies/Short Films/Music. @shadmbrooks and @ShamashAran are doing this, as is @adayasmr (they're trailers, but function more like music videos with plot summaries). Follow their examples.
3. Malfoid has already ostensibly "fixed" many of the issues that fans identified. This factor gets completed, I think, once the sectumsempra debate is settled (though that needs to be done by debating a more prior inquiry, in my opinion as an editor). @EthosHeretica and @LordAratonar have been regularly engaging people on principles to try and resolve debates. The fights will be fierce, no doubt, but even at cross-purposes, a debate is not something to shy away from. Do as they do, and engage with the debates.
4. Yes, J.K. Rowling ultimately is a rights holder, and Maid Marian and Lancelot did not need to contend with copyright law. But the makers of Harley Quinn figured it out: Show the owners of the property (last I checked, there are TWO owners, viz. Rowling & Warner Bros via Paramount) that the fans hunger... or yearn... for more.
5. Malfoid needs to be incorporated into high-profile production; this does not mean officially licensed movie (Hollywood is more like an appendix, here, than a necessary organ anymore). It just needs to be a version that is beloved. @schmede_AI has been trying to create such a production, as has @Foyege24, @ZeyHashimoto, J.A. Vasquez on Youtube, and many, many others. Maybe pass them a buck or two for tokens or coffee or pencils.
6. And lastly, remember, Malfoid needs Text, Principle, and Vow to get past being a vehicle for slogans. Memes are great. Wonderful even. None of this continues if those three things do not continue to be made and reinforced. So blast whorecruxes, reward artists and writers (or become one yourself), and be proud to admit that beautiful art made you want to change yourself for the better (which is the whole damn point of beautiful art).
🧵5/5 aaaaaand done. Likely to be compiled later into an article for ease of reading.
If you want to make Malfoid canon, read the following:
The Department of Education's Malfoid has reminded me of the circumstances that made Maid Marian canon to the Robin Hood legend. It may surprise you to know she is apocryphal, i.e. not part of the original story.
She's a "fanon" [lit. a Fan Canon] character, who later gained traction and legitimacy. Robin hood was originally a story about a dudebro (the original Good Guy Steve meme) out with his bros robbing evil clergymen and trying to bring justice back to the Church, in the name of the Virgin Mary.
Now? Marian and Chivalric Love are as inseparable to Robin Hood as the Sheriff of Nottingham.
Here's how that happened.
