@JKoterwski I agree. As future educators it is crucial that we communicate with our students and understand who they are as individuals. Giving students a voice in our classroom can allow us to know how to best respond to their learning abilities and support identity development.
@MsGlupczynski I completely agree. It is so important to think about our student’s home lives and recognize how those relationships might impact their learning.
@Kennedykeegan_ It is difficult for some students to not get completely wrapped up in our grading system. It's important to have students reflect over their own work, and provide instructions that do not limit their creativity. Like you said, we can't let students lose their color #tchedbirds
@Kennedykeegan_ This is a really important issue to address. As educators we need to find our voice in order to help students find theirs. #tchedbirds#tch130
@SydneyAllee I couldn't agree more. We should not set ourselves to reach just the textbook curriculum. We should be appealing to our students and finding ways in which we can incorporate their passions into our lessons #tchedbirds#tch130
@Mel_Gibbs_ I completely agree. When we don't see oursleves reflected in society, we can make harmful assumptions about our identities. We need to push our students to not feel they need to conform to what society expects of them. #tchedbirds#tch130
@TheVicente99 I like how you brought up that limiting students to sameness results in a negative impact. Students who have the ability to express themselves creatively have been proven to do better in school. Treating students as individuals will allow us to create a more open society #tch130
A3:This video confirmed the need to not cut programs that allow students to express themselves in creative ways. In #TCH130, we learned how crucial it is for students to have these outlets to interact with peers, and develop their own identity #tchedbirds
A6: The AMLE concept of engaging learners is well represented. When the student is forced to do the same assignment each day, they lose interest in school entirely. Lessons need to be engaging in order to captivate learners and inspire them to love learning. #tchedbirds#tch130
A5: We need to account for the needs of all YA learners. No student can be taught the same exact way due to their diverse learning abilites and identities. Students need to be looked at as individuals instead of being forced into the labels of society #tchedbirds#tch130
A4: In teaching, we need to take the risk of not always looking at the standards and teaching to the book. We need to utilize other resources to provide students with a diverse learning environment in which they can grow and see themselves reflected #tchedbirds#TCH130
A2: Reflecting on my own school experiences, I was fortunate enough to have lots of creative outlets. In school I played music and reflected in a space outside of a typical classroom. I understand the value of these resources and how they need to be available to all #TCHEdBird
A1: Hey, I'm Asher. My endorsements are in History and English. I'm planning to graduate in spring of 2024. This week my theme song would be "Saturday in the Park" by Chicago. This song has been on repeat as I look forward to summer https://t.co/d46CuDOAYf #TCHEdBird#TCH130
It's week 3 of #MLEM and we're shouting out to the research that pushes our field forward. Our Middle School Journal editors kick us off by reminding us of the importance of listening to students. How do you provide space for student voice at your school?

Through reading this week in #TCH130 I was suprised to find that middle school students cognitive thinking skills come unimpaired by experiences of failure. This can make them good at finding solutions to social problems in our world.
