I like how glæm ("gleam") in Old English is to "glam" both in meaning and pronunciation. But they have wildly different etymologies apparently.
Glamour is apparently a doublet of grammar? Nothing more glamorous than that.
@Nordix_XY Finns every other day of their lives: "ugh I hated Swedish class, I don't remember a bit of it."
Finns when surveyed on how many languages they speak: "why, three of course! Finnish, Swedish and English."
@R_undrar Det var ikkje så lenge sidan romarane hadde erobra italienske halvøya på den tida, og dei var redde for at byar ville lausrive seg og slutte seg til Hannibal. Romarane var i mindretal blant "allierte" italiske folk.
@ILuvXiJinping@IbnKulthum As far as I can tell people in hot places would wear things like robes, kaftans or even just a loincloth until western clothing became ubiquitous everywhere.
Early Finnish presence in North America influenced colonial log buildings, I read somewhere. Easy to forget New Sweden existed there for a brief period.
this is fake news. anti-squarehead bigotry has prevented anyone with roots in the great wave of 19th/20th century nordic immigration from becoming president but the Bushes are descended from a Finland Swede who came in the 17th century.
