@FreddyLA7 So glad you’re getting to see this beautiful part of our country. My daughter lives in Auburn (I’m an alumnus), I live not far from where you were on Mobile Bay (seen that sunset many times!), and my sister lives in New Orleans. Welcome!
Watching @FreddyLA7 the German World Cup fan road trip through the South and discover actual America has been one of my favorite things online.
Waffle House hash browns. Buc-ee’s snack aisles. Auburn’s stadium. River tubing. Fairhope sunsets. Random small towns that look like movie sets if you actually slow down long enough to notice them.
People fly here thinking America is New York, LA, Vegas, and Disney.
Then they end up somewhere in Georgia, Tennessee, or Alabama and realize the whole country is way weirder, prettier, friendlier, and more interesting than they were told.
That is the America I love watching people find.
@bethanyshondark@conservmillen SAME. And I most definitely never thought I’d give up my career for my children. All it took was a 2-1/2 preemie and not only did I no longer care about my career, but the thought of putting her in daycare was anathema. 23 years later I’ve never regretted my choice.
@bethanyshondark@DanaPerino And it’s not just in dating columns - it’s in Facebook groups and comment sections and Reddit. And it’s not just “jump ship” in marriages - children are being told to go no contact with parents, too.
@roddreher@realJeremyCarl I’m not a white male but I can attest to the fact that the process may have hit the “on steroids” phase when he says, but it didn’t start then. Men were being passed over for women when I entered the workforce in the 1990s - as a utility engineer, not exactly a liberal hotbed.
