My heart breaks for the children growing up in Cape Town's townships. Many are born into environments shaped by violence, yet society expects them to rise above circumstances they never chose. Good parenting can make a difference for some, but families cannot carry that burden alone. Too many of these children have been failed by the state. Judge Thulare once captured it correctly when he said, “The Bill of Rights and the Constitution may apply and be enjoyed elsewhere in the country, but not in the island of their misery, which are the townships of Cape Town commonly referred to as the Cape Flats.”

This grossly misleading.

Manto never promoted garlic, beetroot and african potato as a cure or treatment for HIV. She promoted nutrition.

She never denied anyone access to HIV drugs. Pharmaceuticals wanted to mug government with ridiculously priced drugs and opposed procurement of affordable generic drugs.

The HIV drugs being distributed today are the fruits of the fight the government at the time waged against pharmaceuticals.

The Harvard study you’re referencing was rubbish. There were no 300,000 people who died. StatsSA has HIV mortality figures for that period. The number of deaths were significantly low. This study was funded by pharmaceuticals that fought government because it refused to be swindled with extortionist drugs pricing.
