Our Cherokee Softball girls went 4-1-1 this past weekend at the IWA Tournament and finished 8th out of 43 teams! ™️🥎💛

On the mound, our pitchers combined for 42 strikeouts while giving up just 2 earned runs. At the plate, the team racked up 53 hits, including 5 home runs, and scored 58 runs. 🙌🏼

We are so proud of the heart, grit, and growth this team shows every game. They left it all on the field.

Way to compete, Cherokees!

VARSITY SCORE: TM 9 vs. BEEVILLE 6
JV SCORE: TM 11 vs. BEEVILLE 1

The Cherokees traveled to Beeville to take on the Lady Trojans. Avari Andrade drove in four runs on two hits to lead our Cherokees past the Lady Trojans 9-6. Andrade hit a home run to left field in the third inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the first inning, scoring one.

Makennah Barrera earned the WIN for the Cherokees. Barrera surrendered seven hits and six runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out 12 and walking four.

The Cherokees collected 11 hits in the game. Barrera, Andrade, Goldie Hill, and Madison Trevino each collected two hits.

🥎 WEEKEND RECAP 🥎

Our Cherokee Softball girls tied for 2nd place out of 19 teams at this year’s Brenham Tournament! 🥎🔥

The girls battled through tough games all weekend, going 4-2 and earning big wins against 6A opponents. Their teamwork, grit, and competitive mindset stood out in every game.

As a team, they had 38 hits at the plate, including 2 home runs, and our pitchers combined for 65 strikeouts.

We are so proud of the growth, fight, and heart these girls continue to show every time they step on the field.

Great job, Cherokees!

Cherokees offense was led by Makennah Barrera going 3-4 with 3 RBIs, a double, and a in the park Home Run!!!💣 🥎 Maddi Gummelt hit a big hit to the outfield wall for a triple and scored an RBI. Shelby Hovda hit a line drive to center field and scored an RBI. Maddi Trevino stole 3 bases and ran out a ground ball using her speed to beat the throw for a hit Some incredible plays were made on the defensive side, with Trevino making an amazing dive in the 3-4 hole to get the runner out at first base. Outfielders Gummelt and Elyssa Bazán made some great catches in center field and right field. Barrera pitched 7 Innings, allowed 5 hits, 2 runs, no walks, and struck out 8 batters.

Last night, Cherokee Softball honored some of our real-life superheroes—our teachers—during Superhero Night! 🎉📚 From shaping young minds to inspiring greatness every day, our teachers truly make a difference, and we couldn’t be more grateful for them working with our athletes!

Thank you to all the amazing educators who joined us, we appreciate everything you do! ♥️

We also have great parents who helped supply items for our fans and teachers for our superhero night. Thank you to Nicole Andrade for donating the superhero masks and glasses for fans and capes for the teachers. Thank you to Eileen Stafford for adding the decal of the “TM” on the capes.

🥎 CHEROKEES WIN!

Our Varsity Cherokees defeated Zapata Lady Hawks 7-3 . The Cherokees had some big hits in the 5th and 6th inning to secure the win. Goldie Hill went 3 for 3 and a team total of 5 doubles were hit by Demiree Stafford, Marilin Martinez, Avari Andrade, Makennah Barrera, and Madi Trevino. In the circle, Maddi Gummelt pitched 4 innings, with 3 hits, 3 strikeouts, 2 walks, and 2 runs earned. Barrera came in as relief to pitch, with 3 hits, 2 strikeouts, a walk, and 1 run allowed.

Our JV Cherokees tied 6-6 with Zapata. The offense was led by Ravaeh Vega (2B (3), 3 RBIs) and Christina Lopez (2B, 2 RBIs, SB) both going 3 for 3. Adrissa Salaiz went 2-2 and scored a run.
