Masks are not a panacea. They may seem like the easiest thing to implement and for workers to have some input and control, but they should not be considered an effective substitute for important environmental controls.
I've raised teens and survived, and I can't tell you how relieved I am I don't have to try to convince them why an unmasked school bubble of up to 120,in poorly ventilated classrooms, is fine, but a party of a few dozen friends is irresponsible. #bced
@steeletalk@jheighton3@CKNW Too bad NONE of the layers of protection given to other workers will be seen in #bced. No distancing, no masks, no plexiglass, no air filtration systems. I do not understand how anyone thinks these things are happening?
#COVID19 has laid many #bced problems bare.
Schools heavily relied on for child care & food security. Poor access to bathrooms & sinks. Aged facilities w/ no ventilation. Crowded. Staff shortages. Many have been saying this for yrs. I guess I'm glad everyone cares now.#bcpoli
@pattibacchus is bang on. In May I started to feel like unsupported chess piece in some experiment. Now it’s clear there’s one set of safety standards for most BC workers & a separate, lower, inadequate, underfunded & dangerous standard for #bced workers in this global pandemic.
Let's clear the misinformation.
Teachers fully understand the importance of school for children and teens and we want to teach students in classrooms, face-to-face.
What we don't want is to risk our lives in order to do our jobs. 1/
I’m not a teacher but am also exceptionally tired of this ridiculous statement. Most of us want to be back to some semblance of regular school but for everyone’s safety it needs to be done better than current plans.
It is most certainly not just teachers. And honestly people, even if it were, we should be listening to the folks who actually know what school looks like.
It's not just teachers raising the alarm about the #BCed back-to-school plan | B.C. petition against mandatory return to school gathers thousands of signatures #bced https://t.co/9ZBIsthgYf
Some good news: Koalas are having a successful breeding season at this Australian wildlife park after the devastating bushfires that began at the end of 2019 and threatened much of their population
@tracysherlock I have never been in a classroom in which it would be possible to physically distance appropriately without drastically reducing the number of students in the room, which is not something the #bced plan requires or funds. What rooms is Dr. Henry thinking of?

You know. @adriandix, that in many schools the ventilation systems don't work well and there are not enough sinks and that not all windows open and that mice most often win the battles to exterminate them in classrooms...
3/
In all your years in Opposition, @adriandix you heard countless stories about failing infrastructures in schools so why is there such a huge disconnect between the school restart plan and the reality of what's in schools? #bcpoli#RestartDisasterPlan
If anyone understands the importance of schools for students, it’s the teachers who have been fighting for them for decades. Lizanne Foster writes.

It's NOT the same as workplaces. Almost every single workplace has greater safety precautions than their "plan" to return to school. No masks, no distancing, no plexiglass, no frequent cleaning, literally none of the precautions of other workplaces. #bced#bcpoli
