@RayKrocsGhost@lunchboxtherapy@TomHanson928@Jkraftsucks@HailDeanThanos@MissionVlyMafia NFL teams can’t go BK w rev sharing sys. Raiders proved value 📈ranking skyrocketed #20 to #9. While Chargers value ranking will continue to drop with their 2nd tier tenant 0% stadium ownership financial growth cap. Spanos tradded Market Monopoly in SD for LARegional Irrelevancy
@RayKrocsGhost@lunchboxtherapy@TomHanson928@Jkraftsucks@HailDeanThanos@MissionVlyMafia Not comparable. Levi’s used a tiny 2% tax at 8 hotels ($35M). Spanos wanted a 6% citywide hike for $1.15B—33x more public cash.
Plus, Levi’s only got 58% of the vote. If they needed the same 66.7% supermajority Spanos faced, it would’ve failed. Spanos couldn’t put up >$350M
@lunchboxtherapy@TomHanson928@Jkraftsucks@HailDeanThanos@MissionVlyMafia No SD deal would ever work bc Spanos couldnt afford/demanded billion$ handout NO CA taxpayers would give. He rejected all $350M pre-measure C simplemajority deal in MV for DT supermajority vote land grab. Now he’s an L.A. tenant &valuation rank fell from #21 to #24 since leaving
@lunchboxtherapy@TomHanson928@Jkraftsucks@HailDeanThanos@MissionVlyMafia Which part? Not in CA or the $650M fee he’s paying? A loan isn't 'free' money—it's an $850M liability Spanos has to repay with his own revenue. He traded control in SD for 0% equity in LA. Since leaving, the Chargers’ league rank sank from 22nd >25th. Didn’t put up enough in SD
@TomHanson928@Jkraftsucks@HailDeanThanos@MissionVlyMafia Not in California. Spanos could’ve made it happen in San Diego for far less than his $650M relocation fee he’s currently making payments on to Kroenke and rest of the NFL owners.
@PXM_2_SD@MissionVlyMafia Spanos pays $65M per year Relocation Fee to Kroenke and the rest of the NFL owners for 10 years. Overhead costs essentially rent. Spent more to leave SD than to stay.
@othmkr @SDWSChamp2026 Time to review history again: No taxpayer in SD or anywhere in CA is gifting a billionaire a $2B stadium. Spanos could’ve made MV project work with only coming up w $350M but he wanted a land grab or leave for LA/Carson 1st to block Rams then block Raiders w/Kroenke out of SoCal.
@PXM_2_SD@MissionVlyMafia Finance? 📉 Every NFL team’s value rose, but the Chargers sank from 22nd to 25th. Spanos traded equity for a lease and is flushing $65M/yr in rent to a rival. The Padres’ record $3.9B sale proves SD is a goldmine—Spanos just chose to be a 2nd tier tenant in someone else’s house
@Herbert4MVP Time to review history again: No taxpayer in SD or anywhere in CA is gifting a billionaire a $2B stadium. Spanos could’ve made MV project work with only coming up w $350M but he wanted a land grab or leave for LA/Carson 1st to block Rams then block Raiders w/Kroenke out of SoCal.
@UTChargerTom@hochalicious San Diego History Review: No taxpayer in SD or anywhere in CA is gifting a billionaire a $2B stadium. Spanos could’ve made MV project work with only coming up w $350M but he wanted a land grab or leave for LA/Carson 1st to block Rams then block Raiders w/Kroenke out of SoCal.
@GoslinTodd@hochalicious ‘LA premium’ is a myth. Since leaving SD: 2015, Chargers rank sank from 22nd>25th. While the Padres hit a MLB record sale, Spanos is flushing $65M/yr in rent to their market rival. He didn't build value; he just paid a $650M fee to be a 2nd tier tenant in a city that ignores him.
@othmkr @pebkac101 Not even close.
@othmkr @pebkac101 Not happening. Let’s get in a time machine to 1998 almost 28 years ago November. Also it only required simple majority (50%+) for Petco vs supermajority 66.7%+ required for DT Stadium.
@othmkr Time to review history again: No taxpayer in SD or anywhere in CA is gifting a billionaire a $2B stadium. Spanos could’ve made MV project work with only coming up w $350M but he wanted a land grab or leave for LA/Carson 1st to block Rams then block Raiders w/Kroenke out of SoCal.
@lunchboxtherapy@HailDeanThanos@Thunderstick19 DT was DOA with Super Majority 66.7% vote required (multi purpose use with convention center was BS just ask ComicCon). Even the same vote in Santa Clara wouldnt have passed with only 58%. I’ll agree with your #1 point why it wasn’t SD fault Spanos couldn’t afford to build it.
@lunchboxtherapy@HailDeanThanos@Thunderstick19 Snapdragon hindsight shows some of those obstacles were not there. Spanos wanted a land grab in MV so correct he couldn’t afford it but more doable with majority vote vs DT 2/3 vote needed. Again he’s not Kroenke & he wasn’t going to allow 2 more NFL teams in SoCal (Raiders/Rams)
