@danielstorey85 I have learned a lot from your brilliant analysis on the Totally Football Show (my favourite podcast). But I watched the Champions League (legally) for nothing?
While Tony Blair's critical essay of Keir Starmer's government has dominated headlines all week, just 19% of Britons believe Blair would make a better PM than Starmer today
Blair would be a better PM: 19%
Starmer would be a better PM: 17%
Neither would be good PMs: 44%
Breaking news: The Pentagon is moving to recruit hundreds of troops to appear as spectators at President Trump’s UFC cage-fighting event on the White House lawn, and requiring those who attend to pay their own way and meet height and weight requirements. https://t.co/zOSM2ac8Kk
I’m struggling to think of a single member of the Shadow Cabinet who meets that ‘five Cs’ test. What ‘be Conservative’ means is a complex, contested and unresolved question - central to the party’s existential crisis, but as muddy now as it was when they were expunged in 2024.
A powerful and clinical call to arms from @KemiBadenoch for a new generation of Conservative candidates.
"We need candidates with the five Cs: they must be clever, have charisma, communication skills, conviction and, most importantly, be Conservative."

I'm not saying "time to panic" so much as I'm saying it's not entirely awesome that the highest level of delinquencies since the 2008 financial crisis are coinciding with near-record low savings rates during a period of stubbornly high interest rates and rising inflation
Didn’t think this was a real post at first.
Either way, the artists pulling out say this isn’t about the “yips,” they say it’s about the perception that the festivity is partisan in nature. Not sure this post will dispel that concern.

The UK now has 90 taxes (more than any time since 1843).
Germany raises more tax than the UK, but with only 60 taxes.
France raises a bit more than that, but has 348.
What's going on? And what can we learn?
It's perfectly fair to point to how Tony Blair's foundations are funded. It's even fair to ask whether he is influenced by his donors. But once you've done all that, not to engage with his ideas is just stupid.
It is an indictment of politics that no party will follow Tony Blair in stating plainly that the triple lock on the state pension must go. It’s inequitable & indefensible, and the pensioners’ lobby should be put firmly in its place. https://t.co/PWLdntz2oN
Donald Trump: " One of the worst deals ever made by Barack Hussein Obama. Remember when they sent Boeing 757s over there loaded with cash, hundreds of millions... Sent it to Iran almost as ransom. That's not gonna happen with Trump…Can you imagine if I did that?”
BREAKING. Tony Blair says:
- “The Labour Party is playing with fire” 🌹 🔥
- “Whether there is a leadership change or not is irrelevant if it doesn't start with a policy debate”.
- “Trying to force the Prime Minister out before we know what policy direction we're bringing in, is not a serious way of conducting ourselves.”
- “Governments which succeed don't start with a personality contest. Or a political question – how do we ‘save the country’ from Reform? They start with an idea, a project, a governing purpose, an analysis of what is wrong and a plan to put it right.”
- “The best political space from which this can be achieved is what I call the Radical Centre”
- He understands “the anxiety in Europe when the language of parts of the American Administration seem to cast doubt on the value of NATO or the Transatlantic Alliance.” But he regards it as “less a ‘rupture’ than a ‘reckoning’”.
- On Britain’s relationship with Europe, he says: “Just as Brexit was never the answer to Britain’s challenges back in 2016, reversing it isn't the answer to the country’s far worse situation in 2026. Our relationship with Europe should be part of a comprehensive strategy for Britain’s future and that doesn't begin with Europe but here at home.” 🇬🇧🇪🇺
- “… if we want to go back into some sort of structured relationship with Europe, we can only do so from a position of economic strength. We must be at the farthest end of European competitiveness. At present, we’re not.”
