@RyanHyattMedia This is 100% the correct take. No 8 year old kid in America is picking up a soccer ball when an accidental ankle penalty gets you sent off and suspended. The American sports psyche is bigger, faster, stronger.
@thadbrown7 I disagree. American sports are rooted in physical dominance - bigger, faster, stronger. The sport doesn’t have to be, but the athletes need to be. Flopping is plaguing the NBA the same way PI is in the NFL. Kids are scratching their heads why an ankle foul is a disqualifier.
@Nick___Collins You’re mistaking “crying” for annoyance. Everyone understands the rule, just voicing frustration. And everybody understands it’s a foul, just not one that should get a player ejected. Americans want to watch athletes physically dominate, not flop. Ask the NBA how thats going.
@StickToTheModel Yeah, this is the positive PR Goodell and co needed! And this is exactly why the sport isn’t turning the corner like FIFA and others think it can.
(Side note, The Eras Tour was a vibe bro. Stop sleeping on T.Swizzle)
@wrinkleblinkle@RandyScottESPN Well, as an ex-soccer player myself, and fan of the sport, I agree with half of what you said, and that’s my point. The sport is trying to turn the corner in the U.S. and moments like this are turning points.
@bwfast Because American sports are rooted in physical dominance - bigger, faster, stronger. It doesn’t mean the sport needs to be physical, it means athletes need to showcase physical dominance. Which is why flopping in basketball and soccer cause viewer frustration and indifference
@Broadcaster005 I thought the same thing. At least they had enough sense not to have them jabber over Country Roads and stayed live for the whole song.
The greatest soccer player of all time plays in the MLS and the majority of Americans couldn’t care less. If FIFA upholds this red card on Balogun, the sport of soccer might never recover in the U.S., and that’s not an exaggeration. #WorldCup#USMNT
The @nfl needs its version of @CollegeGameDay - with @JasonKelce as the centerpiece. Can you imagine him and Travis tailgating with the fans? Spotlighting local businesses. Bringing on past/present players. Maybe a musical performance? Would be … electric! ⚡️ @newheightshow
Day 3 of this flock of what looks to be Turkey Vultures resting on the neighboring building here in Miami, FL. A total of 23 (not all pictured). Hey @audubonsociety can you confirm the species?
Coco Gauff!! U.S. Open Champion! I’ve been following her for a while, and had the opportunity to see her play at the 2022 Miami Open. Can’t wait to see what’s next! #USOpen
