Nobody’s ‘dumb’ for being unaware a policy was put in place >30 years ago in NYC. Especially if out of state. The political temperature is built off a recency bias.

@sbpchuck72 @kylecordes @EricLDaugh Look up NYC CFB - TIE requirements. It’s a regular part of mayoral elects in NYC. It’s all public record. I don’t remember any previous mayoral elect approaching it in this fashion. But, there was scrutinies in the past admin- due to the way they obtained or used the funds.

@betsyknyc @EricLDaugh The hard hitting questions. He can only spend this during the Transition period. It’ll all be public record in terms of his final TIE tally and we will see where it goes. He can’t re-allocate it anywhere. If his inaugural stage is extravagant. Absolute waste of funds.

@ShastasCorner @EricLDaugh Adams raised 2m. Just wasn’t publicized. What was publicized was his infractions during the TIE period, by the campaign finance board of NYC. In 2023 after his 2021 TIE period. As well as his small portion of fines. All NYC mayoral elects are horrid. Have been for quite some time

But, his ask for funds is double. It’ll be interesting to see how he allocates 4m in a short transitional period if they reach it

@IheartTesla @EricLDaugh Mamdani actually raised 17m in public and private funds for campaign. It’s not allowed to be used in a transitional period. The NYC CFB requires mayoral elects to open what’s called a TIE for this period and spending. Can’t spend campaign funds. He has excess of 4m - cant touch.

Adams raised $2m during his TIE period in 2021 and continued collecting funds after the deadline. It’s not abnormal.

@iguessthird @Aarwaves @EricLDaugh I mean to be fair the NYC Campaign finance board requires candidates to use something called a TIE and can’t use campaign or political parties committee money as Transitional Inaugural Expenses. Mamdani has an estimated $4m left over in campaign funds he can’t use.

@Larken75 @EricLDaugh Additionally - there are contribution limits to a TIE implemented by the NYC campaign finance board. As well as specific entities and avenues to obtain donations. $4m is double what last committee raised. But, it’s not out of the ordinary to be done.

@Larken75 @EricLDaugh Listen, I am not a fan of this guy. But, ‘TIE’ is an entirely normal part of a mayoral campaign in NYC. Transition and Inaugural expenses are not covered by campaign funds. Now, he’s asking for double Adam’s raised. But, Adam’s committee was fined for a few things in transition.
