Hospital admissions with COVID have risen sharply!
7-day average for England up 48%.
Implied R estimate above 1.2. The highest we’ve seen in 2022.
Regionally, the biggest increases are in SE (up 64%) and Mids (up 58%) but big increases everywhere.
Bed occupancy is up by 37%.
Unfortunately hospital admissions with covid are rising steeply again across England.
No specific variant to blame (yet) but a combo of waning immunity, changing behaviour, and a soup of new more immune evasive variants growing (but not yet dominant). 1/2
The BA.4.6 variant now accounts for >12% of US cases, steadily rising. Its Arg346 mutation, shared w/ many of the new variants, makes it more immune evasive than BA.5, resistant to Evusheld prophylaxis and potential of reinfections after BA.5 https://t.co/bWu7dP3OOp @yunlong_cao
The people who dismissed the risks of Truss's fiscal policy causing a market meltdown were largely the same people who dismissed the economic risks of a No Deal Brexit. Not a coincidence.
Ok, two things. 1) Truss will be gone pretty soon. And 2) Conservative Party members should never again have the final say on who is Prime Minister of our country.

Etymology of the day: ‘dog days’ take their name from the Dog Star, Sirius, long associated with sultry weather in the northern hemisphere because it rises with the sun during the hottest days of summer.
