An update on short-term rentals in Wayzata: The City Council is actively evaluating our next steps, both legally and from a policy standpoint. We are exploring all options—including a potential appeal, a requested moratorium, zoning measures, and pathways for responsible operators. We will review staff recommendations in upcoming sessions to determine the best path forward.

Join me in congratulating my incredible friend & colleague, Becky Pierson, on her retirement from the Wayzata West Metro Chamber! To honor her immeasurable contributions, the City of Wayzata and I officially proclaimed yesterday, March 26, as Becky Pierson Day now and forever. Mayor Andy
Hello Wayzata. Police Chief Jamie Baker & I joined Hennepin County leaders to sign an urgent letter. We strongly oppose recent suggestions that the County reduce funding the @HennepinSheriff public safety role. Our local departments rely on this vital partnership.

Downtown Wayzata update: Talbots is NOT closing. 📣 A recent construction issue next door required a temporary closure to reset merchandise. They are working hard and will reopen soon. Thank you for continuing to support our downtown retailers! 🏢🛍️ #WayzataMN - Mayor Andy
Amplifying a message from MN Business leaders and Mayors via the MN Chamber of Commerce. A plea for immediate deescalation of tensions and for state, local and federal officials to work together to find real solutions. In this difficult moment for our community, a call for peace and focused cooperation among local, state and federal leaders to achieve a swift and durable solution. MN is not ok.
The City of Wayzata is aware of recent federal law enforcement activity by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) within our community. We want to ensure our residents understand the Wayzata Police Department's role and responsibilities. The Wayzata Police Department enforces only Minnesota state law and the City of Wayzata and the City of Long Lake ordinances. The Department does not enforce federal immigration law, does not inquire about immigration status, and does not collect that information.
Enforcement of federal immigration law is conducted exclusively by federal agencies. Wayzata Police do not participate in or collaborate with federal agencies on immigration enforcement. The Department is not notified in advance of federal immigration enforcement activity and has no authority to direct, control, or interfere with federal agencies carrying out their lawful duties.
The Wayzata Police Department’s primary responsibility is protecting public safety and the well-being of all individuals within the City. If Wayzata Police are called to respond to a disturbance or enforcement activity, their role is limited to de-escalation and safety - not immigration enforcement.
The City remains committed to serving our residents, maintaining public safety, and supporting our community. We want all residents, businesses, and visitors to feel safe in our City and when contacting law enforcement. If you witness immigration enforcement, we ask you to stay safe, remain peaceful, and follow the instructions of Wayzata Police Officers (if present) as they seek to keep everyone safe.
Hats off to Steve Bohl and the entire team at The Hotel Landing Did you know they were recently named the #1 Staycation Hotel in the "Best of Lake Minnetonka 2025" awards and were ranked #3 Best Hotels in Minnesota by U.S. News & World Report.
It is great to see a Wayzata business receiving this level of recognition. There is also more to look forward to—a major upgrade is currently underway at their restaurant, ninetwentyfive, just in time for spring.
Congratulations on setting the bar high!
Heads up! For this month's Mayor Meetup, we are moving locations. Instead of the Muni, I’ll be hosting you at Wayzata City Hall at 7:00 PM. Looking forward to it,
💈 Good news: A Wayzata institution returns!
Barbers Inn is open again. 54 years strong—founded by the late Bob Nash and carried on today by Dave Duffner. It's everything we love about local business: traditional service & great conversation.

I recently had the opportunity to speak on Fox News regarding the letter signed by nearly 100 fellow mayors demanding better fiscal management and accountability from state leaders.
I signed on to this letter and chose to do this interview out of deep concern for the macro-level economic outlook of our state. The evolving fraud scandals and spending issues in St. Paul are not just state-level problems; they create pressure that trickles down to local communities, ultimately impacting property taxes here in Wayzata and limiting the investment from the State back into our community for infrastructure and public safety.
My goal was to offer a balanced (non partisan), fair, and fact-based assessment of where we are right now, and more importantly, where we go from here to ensure our local cities remain strong.
