This afternoon, I officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for Kidepo International Airport in Karenga District.
I reminded the wananchi that Karamoja has come a long way from the days of insecurity, cattle rustling and lawlessness. The restoration of peace has created the conditions for the Karamoja region to develop.
The airport will improve access to Kidepo Valley National Park, boost tourism, attract investors, create jobs for our young people and expand markets for local products. Already, more than 1,600 Ugandans are employed on the project.
I thank our partners from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates for recognizing the immense opportunities that exist in Uganda and Africa.
Earlier today, @MTWAUganda under the leadership of PS @KatusiimeDor, convened a progress review meeting with hoteliers under their Umbrella Association @Ugandahotel and key stakeholders, including the @TourismBoardUg ,@NCSUganda1 ,@Educ_SportsUg,Bunyoro Hotel Owners Cluster, and the #AFCON2027 Local Organising Committee Secretariat, as Uganda continues to strengthen tourism sector preparedness ahead of #AFCON2027.
The engagement focused on the critical role played by the hospitality industry in delivering world-class experiences for participating teams, officials, visitors, media and fans. Hotels are at the heart of Uganda’s readiness efforts and will play a key role in showcasing the warmth, services, professionalism and excellence that define Uganda’s unique hospitality sector.
The meeting provided an opportunity to assess progress, address emerging priorities and reinforce collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that the country is fully prepared to host a successful and historic tournament.
