My heart goes out to Charlie. Cracking lad trying to do what’s right for the country.
This is absolutely appalling. And just shows how much our wider team have had to put up with day in, day out.
You always have a wider family in Sunderland Charlie.
🚨 BREAKING: Birmingham Reform UK councillor was sent suspected asbestos package in the post.
• Dr Charlie Latchford, the Reform UK councillor for Longbridge and West Heath, reported receiving a package containing suspected asbestos on Thursday.
• He said the material was deliberately packaged in a way that would cause maximum exposure to whoever opened it.
• Police and fire crews attended the scene, after which Latchford was stripped, isolated outside and his road was quarantined.
• The councillor stated that the package will be traced and that no political or personal disagreement justifies putting someone’s health or life at risk.
• West Midlands Police treated the incident under Operation Ford and an ambulance was arranged.
Interesting that you support a charity who has spread misinformation to children (not really you’ve done the same). But you don’t support;
The National Glass Centre
British Veterans
Rape enquires
The people of Sunderland
Prosecuting asylum seekers who commit crimes
Freedom of speech.
I can go on. But it’s clear. Labour hate Sunderland.
Proud to show my support for @SRTRC_England’s ‘Wear Red day’ & their important anti-racism education work: yesterday in Parliament and today at the Stadium of Light.
Thanks to @SunderlandAFC for their continued 30 years support in tackling racism in our city and beyond.

Sunderland’s National Glass Centre represents 1,300 years of glassmaking heritage. We’re not about to roll over and let that disappear.
I’ve written to @lisanandy demanding Government intervention.
We’ve taken action locally. Now it’s Westminster’s turn.
Perhaps our local Labour MP, @LewisAtkinson can at least try and help make sure Sunderland’s voice is heard in Government too?
Come on, Labour. Pull your finger out. Britain’s industrial heritage is worth fighting for, and Sunderland expects action.
Nice to see Lewis agrees with Reform and is now acknowledging the asylum and immigration system is failing?
Labour’s been in government for over two years, yet asylum support still cost taxpayers £4 BILLION in 2024/25, including £5.5 MILLION a day on hotels.
And as of June, 93,293 people were still receiving asylum support, 16,021 of them in hotels.
The Tories lost control of the system, but Labour’s asleep at the wheel.
Fancy that… our Reform Council leader campaigning for the very same Tory Government he now runs a mile from, that shafted Sunderland with austerity, that signed terrible asylum accommodation contracts costing taxpayers billions while losing control of the immigration system
£1 MILLION in suspected illegal tobacco seized in Sunderland!
Dodgy cigarettes aren’t harmless. The trade is linked nationally to organised crime, including people-smuggling.
Cracking work by Trading Standards and police.
If you’re making a living breaking the law, don’t expect an easy ride in Sunderland.

There’s been a fair bit of noise about Sunderland City Council’s finances lately.
Here’s the thing. Having money and knowing how to manage it are two different things.
Anyone can pull a few figures off a spreadsheet. Actually managing public money properly is another matter.
My priorities? Borrow less, cut waste and stop throwing good money after bad.
You’d think Labour, after all those years running the Council, would know the difference by now.
Live within our means, look after taxpayers’ money and get value for every pound spent. Hardly a radical idea, is it?
@ReformUkWear #Sunderland
A disgusting precedent set by ITV here if true. Alleged breaches of the law, confidentially and professionalism at a time when Reform members and politicians have been attacked and threatened. This type of behaviour is beyond the pale.
ITV have likely broken the law to put the safety of Reform UK MPs at risk.
This is totally unacceptable. There is no depth that the establishment won't sink to in order to tear Reform UK down.
Huge transformation in fiscal management in Sunderland.
Still work to be done to undo 54 years of Labour mismanagement. But this is the sort of result we were elected to deliver.

That’s the turnaround in Sunderland City Council’s projected finances since we took over.
When we took control, we promised to get a grip on council spending, challenge waste and make taxpayers’ money work harder.
The results are beginning to speak for themselves.
Deputy Leader Cllr Andrew Ramsey explains how we’re getting Sunderland’s finances back on track.
Reform UK is delivering for Wearside taxpayers.
#ReformUK #Sunderland #Wearside
This is clear evidence that Labour turned their backs on Wearside, and gaslit residents into believing their heritage didn’t matter.
In less than 6 months we reversed that. And we put Sunderland first. And this is just the beginning.
For years, under Labour, the future of the National Glass Centre was allowed to slide from uncertainty, to closure, to the very real prospect of demolition. The University first announced plans to leave the building in 2023, and by December 2025 was formally progressing towards demolition.
In a matter of months, my administration has acted. We have pursued the evidence, backed protection through an Article 4 Direction, and worked alongside the campaigners who have fought relentlessly for this building.
Today is not the end of the fight, but it is a major change in direction.
My congratulations and thanks go to everyone who refused to give up on the National Glass Centre.
Sunderland’s heritage will always be worth fighting for.
Tonight, we approved an Article 4 Direction for the National Glass Centre here in Sunderland, as well as an ACV listing.
For years Labour had gaslit the people of Sunderland into the idea that nothing could be done for the NGC. But here we are. Heritage always matters.
Lord Sugar, I’ll be happy to give you a breakdown of how Nissan in Sunderland broke the mould with this sort of thing.
The North East has a proud history of doing what’s best for the North East. Because heaven knows we’ve had no help from London (or Manchester for that matter).
So, I invite you, to head on up to Sunderland, grab a Pink Slice and a cuppa, and we can show you how we do things different.
If I recall , on the eve of the Brexit vote Nigel Farage conceded he lost based on the voting so far. It was the North East of England that tipped the scales after the full count was in the morning . The irony being that in Sunderland Nissan set up a plant years prior to be able to supply the EU market without tariffs . Not only did they set up a plant there was a nucleus of suppliers who set up also to support them with components. By leaving the EU it now means that cars produced in Sunderland attract tariffs when exported to the the EU. How brilliant was that, talk about shoot yourself in the foot.
Burnham: "I would be really concerned to lose [the owners of Manchester City]. They've been such a huge partner in the building of modern Manchester and obviously the building of Manchester City into the global force that it is"
Has Andy Burnham agreed with the American’s that the police were wrong to release the suspects. Or confirmed they are “terrorists”. Or said they are foreign nationals. Or said they arrived in the UK on small boats. Which is what you were telling us.
My thoughts are with those affect by today’s events down by the River Wear, and with their families and loved ones.
My thanks also go to the emergency services and incident responders, at what will be an incredibly difficult time.
We are responding to a report of a car entering the River Wear near Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland. 📍
Emergency services are currently in attendance.
We would ask members of the public to avoid the area. ❌
Here we have a sitting Sunderland MP dragging a respected ex footballers name through the mud for political points scoring, while outright spreading misinformation.
You can disagree with the councils decision Lewis. But don’t twist the truth.
Totally out of order.
𝗟𝗘𝗪𝗜𝗦 𝗔𝗧𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗢𝗡 𝗠𝗣 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗 𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗗.
Nobody is trying to “cancel” Gary Bennett.
Comments made by Lewis Atkinson MP on ITV Tyne Tees this evening gave a seriously misleading impression of Reform UK Wearside’s decision.
Our decision concerned its formal relationship with Show Racism the Red Card as an organisation. It was not a decision about Gary Bennett personally, nor does it prevent him from speaking, campaigning against racism, expressing his views or working with anybody he chooses.
The Council Leader has publicly explained that its concerns relate to what the administration considers the increasing politicisation of Show Racism the Red Card, including comments from Chief Executive Ged Grebby describing Reform UK as a “very, very dangerous organisation”.
Gary Bennett is a respected former Sunderland AFC captain with a long record of campaigning against racism. He is perfectly entitled to disagree with the Council’s decision, and we respect his right to do so.
But turning a dispute between Sunderland City Council and an external organisation into a claim that the Council is somehow trying to silence or “cancel” Gary Bennett is simply not an accurate description of what happened.
Lewis Atkinson MP knows the difference between withdrawing Council support from an organisation and preventing an individual from speaking.
He should therefore put the record straight and stop presenting the two as though they are the same thing.
Political disagreement is absolutely legitimate.
Misinformation is not.
Gary Bennett deserves better than having his name dragged into party-political point-scoring, and Sunderland residents deserve an honest account of the decision their Council actually took.
Lewis - apologise.
