So proud of @LeeDavidEvansUK for the publication of his new book 'Coronations and Defenestrations: Choosing (and Losing) Tory Leaders'.
This is a comprehensive history and analysis of the different ways the Conservative Party has selected and removed its leaders in the past century.
Based on archival research and interviews with Conservative party leaders, leadership candidates, and the Chair of the 1922 Committee, this book makes a new, substantial contribution to our understanding of a consequential, but often misunderstood, murky world of rules, characters, plots, and more that have decided (for better or worse!) the fate of our nation.
Congratulations to @LeeDavidEvansUK, my lovely husband and podcast co-host, for his extraordinary council by-election victory in Stanford in the Vale tonight.
A gain off the Liberal Democrats.
(Commiserations to my Labour comrade, who won 13 votes)
🐈⬛ Happy International Cat Day everyone!
😊 What better day than this to retweet about Stanley, the cat who guarded the flat at Downing Street during the Falklands War?
🗒️ @ChuArchives has a handwritten note from Margaret Thatcher asking people to look after him.
In the latest interview for our 'What the Papers Say' series, Allen Packwood sat down with Boni Sones OBE to discuss her incredible work founding the Women’s Parliamentary Radio Channel.

@libdemdaisy Absolutely agree with @libdemdaisy's passion for the need for fresh hospital buildings in West Herts. But the current plans are for the wrong facilities in the wrong place. Time for fresh thinking! That said, the staff at WGH remain superb in the face of great adversity.
@libdemdaisy Perhaps the delay allows for a (further) review to see if a more central and accessible site might work better for residents of Hemel H and St Albans and possibly those of the Watford area too? Especially given likely population changes in West Herts in the coming decade.
Huge congrats to #ColinBell DFC on receiving the BEM in the NY’s Hons list.
This not for his #SWW heroism: 50 raids over Germany as a Mosquito Bomber pilot, but for recent charity fundraising… last yr inc abseiling down the Royal London Hosp.
Here we’re at his 103rd birthday!
🚨NEW: We’ve made a Christmas special of our podcast!
In it we discuss Anne Kerr MP, New Year honours, what we’re reading this week, and whether the late Queen once secretly referenced a prime minister’s illness in her Christmas message.

✨ It's been a busy December here at the Archives Centre!
🎄Recently, while processing a new accession to the papers of the engineer, Ove Arup, one of our archivists found this charming collection of Christmas cards, carefully tucked away in a brown envelope.
Just manage to squeeze this in before the holiday break: a reflection on the first 18 months of @UL's new Research Institute (ULRI). It's been - and continues to be - such a privilege to work on this with @CamUniLibrarian, @CamLibResearch, @orietta_darold and others.
Hello folks. The launch of my book “Approved Schools for Girls in England 1933-1973” will be at The National Archives in Kew in the early evening of January 14th. It’s hybrid but would be lovely to see some friendly faces in person. More details here: https://t.co/k4U44Pl8No
📦Last week we hosted a workshop for students studying the @CamModBrit MPhil.
🌟An inspiring presentation by Archives By-Fellow @satisfactory20, a chance to work with some of our papers, and a behind the scenes tour were just some of the highlights of this year's workshop!
