New York City landlords are not your enemy.

Property taxes on stabilized buildings went up 22% in 5 years. Insurance doubled. Water and sewer rates climbed every single year. And the city froze what those owners can charge.

A landlord on the Upper West Side told me last month he's losing $1,400 per unit per year after expenses. He's not raising rents out of greed. He's trying to keep the lights on.

But nobody wants to hear that because it's easier to have a villain.
