The Nature Conservancy of Canada and its partners have added another 26-hectres of protected land to the Musquodoboit River Valley Nature Reserve.

The Nature Conservancy, in partnership Climb Nova Scotia and the Musquodoboit Trailway Association, says the newly protected land includes an area of forest and wetlands around the community trails in Musquodoboit Harbour.

Climb Nova Scotia initiated the project, looking to further protect the area around the well-known climbing rock in Musquodoboit, known as 'the Spot', which is only accessible by the trails in the newly protected area.

The 26-hectre parcel of land brings the total protected area Musquodoboit River Valley Nature Reserve to over 300 hectares.

Marie-Ève’s team uses an increment borer to reach the inside of the tree trunk and pull out a narrow piece of the tree’s core. They count the rings to determine the tree’s age. 🌲
