I had an immature-type oriole this morning in Mississippi that I’m trying to string into a Bullock’s Oriole. I’m looking at the pale undertail (as opposed to orange), the very grey belly, and maybe a line thru the eye? Any opinions vs Baltimore Oriole?
Has anyone else been dealing with buggy Rstudio lately? Updated a few weeks ago and now I’m getting erroneous errors every other session that are only solved by restarting the session @rstatstweet @rstats4ds
@DrBirdLady One thing that always struck me was how many NON-ornithologist type students he inspired. How many cellular bio majors took that class as an easy credit and ended up becoming life long bird watchers, or at least bird-appreciators 😂
The ornithology world lost a giant last week. Don’t bother searching google scholar for Charles ‘Zig’ Ziegenfus because you won’t find much. He didn’t publish bird research, but what he did do was mentor and inspire thousands of students over a 50-year career as an educator
Zig was just, a really really good guy. The greatest mentor I ever met. If I can grow to be half the teacher he was I’ll be satisfied. I’m thankful he was able to be there for me and Lauryn’s wedding, but I’ll miss him terribly. I’m not sure I’ll ever meet one again like him
Texas birders: Anyone have any tips for a 1-day birding trip to High Island last week of April? Like “Make sure you start at this hotspot first thing in the morning, then move onto this” etc? Thanks!!
When I was out in California someone told me that female cowbirds are more likely to/ always lay eggs in the nests of the species that was their own host species when they were a chick. Is this true/ Is there any evidence for this?

I have a lot of feelings about my first 1st-authored paper! Most of all, I am incredibly thankful to all the folks who made it possible, most notably my advisor @clarkrushing who was extremely supportive at every step ⬇️
